Unfortunately, the political debate has become keep welfare programs vs. get rid of welfare programs when it should be about how we can make welfare programs actually encourage people to become self-sufficient.
"the political debate has become keep welfare programs vs. get rid of welfare programs'"

I've heard of this proposal. Do you have some info on it?

Yes I know people living off social security, they don't have what I would call a great life. not even remotely.
Depends on the program. There are some in MD where they have lived n gov't housing for a lifetime.

They even tore down the old housing and built new ones and the same people had first grabs.

The vast majority of those who are receiving aid are trying not too. Yes there are horrific example of people doing the opposite, but they're not the majority. We have a large amount of unemployed who are actively looking to work.

Treating our fellow Americans with contempt, and calling them parasites is the affront to everything American.
I hope you realize I was speaking metaphorically, not literally about you.

I think you deceive and delude yourself greatly about the characteristics of our great parasite class, whom I have abject contempt for.

I've BEEN a member of that "parasite class" as you call them, it wasn't by choice. My mother was as well-and she worked HARD not to be.

But let me ask you a related question.

Where are the jobs for these people? In order for your point to be valid there has to be some work they can perform. Where is it?

Right now, much it is being done by foreigners because the locals deem themselves above such work as their skills, aptitudes and abilities (or lack thereof) qualify them for. In other words, they feel they are too good for jobs that are too good for them.

Some have so completely missed the bus (after bus, after bus....) that there is no hope for them. You are free to adopt them.

Really? You believe that? Walk down to the temp jobs places, go tell the people spending all day down there hoping for ANY sort of work that. Go ahead.

Thanks for proving my point. Some have missed the buss so completely, there is little hope for them. My offer still stands, go ahead and adopt them. I think that the costs and aggravation of hiring them would far outweigh any benefit, but you might find a percent or two that at "keepers" that can actually pull themselves up.
