Seems some expected a daily update from Ebola czar. Obviously, that was not the intention.

Instead it appears he is doing perhaps what he does best- work behind the scenes to get people rowing in the same direction

CDC is not a regulator. It can recommend responses. It's then up to state, county and municipal health departments and ultimately, hospitals to do the heavy lifting.

Oh come now. Even your own article questioned what has the Ebola Czar done and where he's been. It's pretty obvious is was a position appointed to have no impact whatsoever on just about anything at all. The Ebola Czar is a non-entity and frankly, to suggest otherwise is naive.

Well, yeah. Some don't know how long it takes to make a vaccine. They're still trying to get one for AIDS.

It would be nice to see our czar doing some work. It's not clear to me who he's getting people rowing in the same direction. Do you think he put the WHO director up to her snarky comments?

Yeah. And it's kind of a kick in the teeth to GSK, which has been working on an Ebola vaccine and in addition has provided a chunk of money to fight Ebola and free medications - which are needed to for non-Ebola care. People are not getting other medical treatment because Ebola has wiped out the entire medical care system in the affected countries.

Yep. We do not know whether the vaccines will even work yet, though the animal studies predict that they will. Even if they are effective, it will take time to get the data to confirm it.

Is this the same GSK which was forced out of China for bribery charges? Let's be honest. These companies while having some noble goals are oriented towards profit. It is their raison d"etre so lets not be naive and squishy. Dr. Chan pulled an Ace out of the deck and played it. I think that she will get results and a slight snarl....but it's a big bad world at times and she has indicated she does not shy from a fight. Reminds me of a Nurse I have heard about.

His job is to keep the reporting censorship going and to keep the incompetent CDC Director out of the public eye.

Exactly. It can't be a coincidence that media outlets have agreed not to cover even suspected cases, much less identify how many travelers are being monitored, and we have seen Frieden out there (at least I haven't).

Message control was the goal.

Bush had 35+/- czars, including a Bird Flu Czar. Can you name one? I can't.
