So was I. See my first post in this thread with the racist quotes made before he ever sat in the Oval Office. It wouldn't have made one bit of difference if Obama had never said one word about race or commented on any of the cases involving racism.

The very fact he's black and he's the President would have been enough.

I love all the CD cons getting all PC about this. However they are right. If W had used the word in the same "context" the libs would be going ballistic.

But the cons would be defending W's use of the word in the same way the libs are defending are defending Obama now.

N word aside cons abuse Obama in ways that would make the N word sound tame by comparison. Nugent calling him a"sub human mongrel" being the best example of this.

When referring to any word, as a 'word', one is simply using "meta-language", or language about language, to make a point.
It's pejorative meaning is dissolved by the abstraction itself.

I find it wimpy and embarrassing to say 'n-word' when I mean 'n i g g e r', especially if Obama, among others, uses it in a public setting.

It's time we grew up and de-fanged this word... and I am sorry I was required to circumvent the cd censors to make this post.

Does anyone really take Ted Nugent seriously? I don't think he's a good example to use when we are talking about "cons."

not sure why anyone is surprised since Obama is no more than a race baiter.

Here's the quote:

"It's not just a matter of it not being polite to say ****** in public," Obama said.
He's absolutely right. It's not just about it being impolitic.

He did not apply it to anyone or call anyone that name or use it to describe any group of people; he was addressing the use of the word. And all of those hysterically wetting themselves over this are either utterly clueless or are being intentionally obtuse.

Stop being so cowardly and gutless in discussing racism.

When will people stop obsessing over skin color? It'll be nice if we have a president that inspires instead of whines and drags us down and backward. Too bad the first black president loves a controversy, and sees it as a way to advance his left wing agenda by means of divide and conquer.

When people stop slaughtering and otherwise harming others over skin color, that's when.

When will people stop wringing their hands more over a national leader that actually addresses the serious problem of racism than over a man who guns down nine people due to their race? Talk about profoundly screwed up priorities.

That is racism in itself.
White Republican? The media would attack a black Republican for using the N word. Then again, the media thinks that "black Republican" is an oxmoron.

This is one of the things I admire most about Obama. He has balls. He really says what he thinks and he doesn't care if it freaks people out. I saw black politicians and leader on tv saying they didn't like it that he used the word. Some white people don't like it either. But, of course, as Jon Stewart said the other night--he's got a few more weeks, so he can pretty much say whatever he wants (i.e., stop kissing up to people and being PC). Obama is in the same situation.

And to the person who stated that Bush could not have said it--I disagree. If Bush said it while making the same intellectual argument that Obama was making, it would have been ok. But the fact is that Bush did not make intellectual arguments. Not his style.

Still, it is always easier for a member of a group to use a word or name that basically has a derogatory connotation for the same group.
