No one is proposing "banning" guns. We want to keep guns out of the hands of those who seek to harm us. What is wrong with doing intensive background checks? If one is an upstanding citizen, they should be cleared and will be able to buy a gun.

Murder has become commonplace in the US. Over 400,000 muders since the 1960's. That is more dead than than those lost in all the wars combined. If guns were banned the only thing that would change is the weapon used.
The problem is not guns. It's the people. Our society has degraded to a point we're human life has little value.
With the loss of faith in our police people have turned to arming themselves.
We will see more and more attacks. Sooner or later radicals of one type or another will obtain radioactive materials or a small nuke and destroy and entire area with thousands dying.
For the present, as long as we allow our gun free zones to be targets for radicals and lunatics we will continue to see slaughters.
Exactly. When Australia did their gun grab, it didn't stop mass killings, just the method used. Beatings, stabbings and being burned alive in buildings skyrocketed. The number of people killed in mass murders stayed virtually the same.
Banning certain classes of arms or reclassifying them like machine guns will certainly slow them down a bit, however. And prosecution for all involved in an illegal arms sale.
Six shot maximum capacity and no carry concealed or open would put a serious dent in the ability of someone to shoot a hundred people.
Are you serious??? Do you think that anyone set on a terrorist attack is going to worry about a six shot maximum and a concealed carry permit? These people have guns that you gun grabbers will never get and they sure as hell don't worry about a permit. You liberal gun grabbers live in a fantasy world. Damn!

Absolutely! That is why we need to regulate guns better. If the argument is that terrorists will move to other methods, so can those who argue it. Those who believe we shouldn't regulate guns because terrorists can use knives, box cutters, etc... as effectively, can also use the same to protect themselves.

We need more extensive background checks, longer waiting periods, and absolutely no sale of any gun ever without an extensive background check. A private citizen can sell their guns through a registered dealer who notifies a special agency that is experienced in and has the resources to conduct extensive background checks. When in doubt, no sale! The person can appeal to the FBI.

Smart politicians know their career or worse, their lives would be in jeopardy. Why would you hope for such a scenario?
The USA has had very open access to weapons for its 250 year history. Now we have had two extremely deadly terrorist attacks and several other smaller ones, carried out by various means, bombs, airplanes and guns. And these have been carried out by members of mostly one religious group, Muslims. So what do the leaders of our govt. want to do, take away the guns and admit more Muslims. Stupid is as stupid does.
