Glad you asked; the Philippine archipelago is home to seventeen distinct tribal groups. only two of which share as much as a common language (Tagalog is the most common and easily taught to foreigners, but there are sixteen sets of lyrics to the Philippine national anthem). After the Tagalogs, the Ilocano, who are prominent in northern Luzon (biggest island) are considered the principal rivals (The Marcoses are Ilocano).

My friends represent several groups, with a couple of mixed marriages among them, and they get along fine; the rivalry appears to be limited to the small minority with real power. There's a saying regarding the four hundred years of Spanish and American colonialism -- "Three centuries in a convent, and one in Hollywood".

Some of the coolest people I know are Filipino.

This is what all Asian nations should do, not just the Philippines.

China is the economic and quasi military power in their hemisphere, and they should have hegemonical designs on their region. Filipinos are Asians...they SHOULD have closer ties to China than they do to us. It only makes sense.

The United States dominates their hemisphere and exercises full hegemony over it. Expect other nations to do the same.

When your presidential legacy is putting your country 20 trillion in debt, giving millions of dollars to an enemy state that takes your citizens hostage, empowering Islamic militants in the middle east, and making the priority of your military rights for crossdressing soldiers...and when your successor is a woman who will double down on your failed policies...a lot of countries are going to be taking a long hard look on how to best manage their futures.

China doesn't abide by rules though they want to push the Philippines around and possibly take it over. The US doesn't go down to the Caribbean and try to take it over. China pushes smaller countries around and it's only for it's own benefit.

It doesn't matter if it's in Asia or not the country identifies more with a US, Australian, or Europe lifestyle. They don't like China and they don't want to be part of China, or be anything like it.

Good riddance to those two-faced, greedy, money hungry people and their mad man of a 'leader'.
