Whatever works for the Philippines. I really don't care. We should do the same and pivot away from the rest of the world and towards our own neighbors.

It is not all Obama's fault if you read up on it Duterte already hated the US before he was elected. From what I understand he also sort of hid all of this before he was elected. No one knew he was going to go full blown crazy.

According to this WSJ article he met Obama in Laos and even though Obama talked to him, and shook his hand he says he felt snubbed by Obama. I'm not sure what he expected exactly. He wanted Obama to sit down and spend a ton of time with him during the trip or something. If Duterte had any brain at all he would just come to the US like he has gone to China.

Instead he would rather just call Obama a "son of a *****" and ambassador Goldberg a "gay son of a b". The guy is completely unhinged. He makes Trump look like a smooth talking politician.

Not sure what to make of this. I looked at a sign at the "Anti-US protest"

Something does not seem to match the sign. Stop-the-attacks-on-our-schools-communities-and-people

Anyone else know what to make of it?

Sorry, I'm not getting my info from the WSJ.

Though something is odd here. What does he have to gain or is he a Chinese agent?

Did anyone fund the protest or fund its agitation?

Duterte just clarified his position several minutes ago at a press conference. He now says he means he is separating the Philippines' "foreign policy" from the United States' foreign policy. With respect to cutting off relations with the US, Duterte said "I cannot do that."

I don't think it means all that much; I've had close friends who emigrated from the Philippines for years. They are moderately liberal / "progressive", but view their native country's politics as essentially corrupt, and not worth much of an interest or effort. Let the circus continue!

If China makes them a better financial offer than the US, they will likely move ahead with a relationship. So?
