Now wouldn't have it been better to address this woman's problems as opposed to a death, an officer losing his job and perhaps facing charges and the inevitable lawsuit?

Absolutely, and many of us that are pro firearm have said this many, many times before. There is an issue with our mental health system and how we handle people that have disorders.

Nice diversion. One bad shoot, one good shoot. This thread is about the good shoot.
Sounds like "suicide by cop" by a mentally ill person.
If the husband actually said "She has a weapon." rather than "She has my BB pistol." It may be argued to be "assisted suicide by cop."
In the end, she pointed a pistol at police officers at 3:45AM in the morning. I'm pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference in dim light between her replica BB pistol and a 9mm Springfield XDM.
As soon as she pulled the trigger, there were be some explaining to do... then the truth would be out. "CLANK" vs "BANG"
As far as lethality of the .177 BB round, I would agree it's an astronomical anomaly that a .177 BB round would kill you from a BB pistol. I have been shot dozens of times with copper BBs from a BB PISTOL. They hurt and left a welt, but rarely broke my skin.
A high-powered .177 pellet rifle using a copper BB round could be potentially lethal to a human if you were shot in the eye and left to bleed out. I had to dig one out of my side before, it's not fun. Pellet guns go up to .50 cal and can be used to bring down hogs or small deer. Different weapons than what she had.
The question comes down to, how long do you let someone brandish a weapon before you open fire on them?
Does a police officer have to wait until the perpetrator actually discharges a round or injures someone before they shoot?
When does fear of one's personal safety or another's personal safety become self-defense vs murder?
What constitutes a reasonable amount of fear to flip the switch?
A Gamo P25 shoots bbs or pellets out to about 600 FPS. If that hit you in the forehead, eye socket or anywhere in the neck you'd be in big trouble even if you had on a flak jacket. The pump pistols are way more powerful just easy to identify.

A .22 Long Rifle at 40gr and 1,000–1,135 ft/s is an unreliable bone penetrator.
We have probably 20 cases where the situation is de-escalated without anyone getting killed to ever case like this one.
Whatever the officers are doing in the other situations need to be taught. We have a case here in WV where the person had a type of Parkinson's and could not hold still but the three officers insisted on beating the **** out of him because he would not hold still.
That dude with Parkinsons: was he holding a gun and, refused to drop it?

How many bones are in your neck facing forward in front of your main arteries?
