personally i dont care if some want to vaccinate, and others dont. i will however side with freedom to choose. as long as vaccines are not forced down peoples throats, i have no issue with them.
figure of speech my friend. i dont care if people choose to be vaccinated, as long as it is their choice, and not a requirement.
for instance, when i was in high school in 1976, the school district required every student to get a flu vaccine. so since it was a requirement, i went and got one. a few weeks later i got the flu. since then i have never gotten a flu vaccine, and as a result i have never gotten the flu.

I feel the same way. No one should be forced to do anything when it comes to medicine. It goes against basic human rights.
read up on herd immunity. Basically if its 90% effective, because of the limits on transmission, we can wipe these diseases out. People who choose not too, endanger all of us in addition to themselves.
And its polarizing because actual real science proves its a good idea overall. People who fall for nonsense like this endanger themselves, and others around them. And I find that contemptible.
The human rights nonsense, is just that. your rights end when you endanger others.

I guess I forgot that little winky face, to alert you to the fact that I was joking. Wait...here he is!
On a more serious note, we've eradicated smallpox and polio. Good, right?
A lot of the anti-vax crowd are actually religious nuts. They see disease and death from disease as part of "God's Plan". Like they see it all over in the bible, so it must be "good" for us. It's too bad it's their children who have to pay the ultimate price and not them.
People who put their own beliefs before common sense are tragic cases.
It's becoming like pro life, pro choice. It's about having control over your own body or your child's in the name of safety.
Do you have the right to end a pregnancy if it's your child in your body? Some believe you are killing another human being. Some do not.
Do you have the right to choose not to vaccinate your child? Even if your child could possibly harm another human being by spreading a virus? Even if you will contain your child if disease presents? Do we trust others?
We have tons of choices to make as a social structure. What constitutes a public health concern? Killing the unborn does to a certain population but to others it does not. To others the loss of control over ones own body and or the body of their child is more important.
For some not vaccinating endangers others and your choice is not as important as human health. Requiring health insurance is the same. Requiring a safe weight is the same. If you are unhealthy in a way society deems you unsafe then should we mandate you to conform?
What if your weight or your habits make it more likely for you to become a carrier of a disease. Does that count?
It really is a social moral decision. We mandate to pay for things that may cause harm but are for the greater good all the time. Our military for wars, roads for cars, etc.
It very socialist to mandate vaccines at the same time it's very liberal to claim pro choice regarding abortion. We pick and choose what we deem a hazard and what we deem a public health crisis. What we deem a choice to do to our bodies and what we do not.
It's a very sticky road. What usually happens is a vote. Who the majority votes for. In our country that usually means who can fund the fight. Anti vaxers can't afford to launch a good campaign or invest in studies to prove a point. Therefore, pro vaxers have an advantage.
Add to the mix unlike a socialized healthcare system we are for a profit. This just adds doubt to the whole thing.
lol, in short, I have no idea. It just is polarizing. But I do believe we have nothing to fear but fear itself. On both ends.
Pro vax. Vaccinations have been a huge benefit to humanity. But, like many things in life, moderation is sometimes best. I have some friends who are anti vax and I just don't get it.
Excess Folic Acid in Pregnancy Tied to Autism Risk
I believe women were being advised about taking folic acid during pregnancy to thwart spina bifida around the same time.
Quote:
In the study, mothers who had very high blood levels of folate at delivery were twice as likely to have a child with autism compared to mothers with normal folate levels. Researchers also found that mothers with excessive B12 levels were three times as likely to have a child with autism.
The risk was greatest among mothers who had excess levels of both folate and B12 -- their risk was over 17 times that of a mother with normal levels of both nutrients, the investigators reported. However, the study only found an association and could not prove that high levels caused an increased risk of autism."
To put it out there, I believe this is, or at least was, only based on a conference abstract. Don't know if it's been published yet. It makes far more sense to me then the grand conspiracies.
