I Believe in welfare to the poor and the needy. Don't believe in corporate welfare. Most corporate executives have their golden parachutes. Hate the wealthy whining about giving social welfare when they have more money than they could spend in a lifetime
And after a few generations of inheritances and taxes, most of that accumulated wealth ends up under the control of the non-profit philanthropic sector -- benefitting everyone. The kind of extravagance constantly wailed about here mostly went out with the Vanderbilts, but you will never get a simplistic "progressive" to recognize this.
ok so you pay zero taxes? yet you suck off services funded by those that DO work and DO actually contribute to American society? wow yet you imply others are leeches
LMAO sucks to not serve a purpose except to take take and take
Americans love Social Security, Medicare and public schools. Americans are not against social programs. But the ruling donor class is. And they have enormous influence over the dominant media and the political system.
No, actually, many of us are against welfare programs. As far as I've seen, they destroy self-esteem and very likely fund the drug wars in the inner cities. The very few who truly need help can find it within their states. The federal government is not God, you can stop worshipping it.
So the great Health care system in the UK allows them to live an unhappy 1.9 years longer than us I'll take the US and be happy!
Anyway, We are already a mixture of Socialist and Capitalist, like most countries on the lists above. We are doing quite well compared to the Majority of the world and the UK without any additional taxes!
And that is not the fault of the "free market" or freedom, it is the fault of those who cannot handle freedom. That a certain segment of society cannot handle freedom is no justification to enslave society in total.
My, my sir but you are good with the word games.
If freedom means taking jobs away from the working class and not replacing those jobs, then freedom also means thinking forward and coming up with solutions to live in an increasingly automated age.
Followed by I don't really care about other people as long as I get mine. The poor or the n'ggs can go f themselves even if policy has been screwing them for decades loosely couched in "personal responsibility".
What if it's true? In reality, most people will not amount to much. Most will get a decent job that they probably won't care about. They do it to pay for stuff. And that's it. A machine could do that, and the way I see it, if a machine could do what you do, you're not actually alive. You're not dead, but the only difference between having died and not really living is that when you finally do die, they'll get some other person to do exactly what you did. Were you truly alive, you'd be irreplaceable.
And I'm not saying we tell people "**** it, nothing matters." I'm saying our culture needs to re-assess it's values. Maybe living to work isn't really a good thing, even if it allows our politicians to wave their big GDPenises around at other countries and when they're running for re-election.
You know it wouldn't be so bad to do the work of a machine if you were paid halfway decent, given time off to enjoy your life on a regular basis and be with your family, had good healthcare and lived in a nice neighborhood.
But no. There is a certain segment of society that believes only certain classes should enjoy the above. As some have said, "I got mine, **** 'em."

Not really. I've posted numerous studies showing that we aren't doing nearly as well as some of you believe but you choose to ignore it.

Starving adults/children aren't obese. They just aren't.
You need to learn about micro-nutrients. Cheap food is generally empty calories, that won't make you feel full, so you eat more. Where healthy food, especially meat costs more in comparison to say boxed stovetop Mac&Cheese
Most Americans are against helping those struggling- as its always the fault of that person. Never mind that murica is ranked low in economic mobility; when you're down, that's where you'll stay.
My wife arrived in the US at age 22 with $50 in her pocket and an overnight bag of clothes as part of a 1-year cultural exchange program. (She stayed after we married - almost 20 years now.) By the time she was 30, she was making six figures. So much for your claim of a lack of economic mobility.
Why are people risking their lives to come *to* the US? How many are risking their lives to get out? Why do foreigners seem to see all the opportunity here while natives cry about being victims and demand to be cared for at the expense of others? If it's so terrible here, why aren't they fleeing to one of the European Socialist countries?
And what entitles them to an ever-growing part of what I earn?
