I hate VAT taxes because it taxes good and services. Taxes should be based on fees for benefits , not because you create a useful product.
I would rather see the 'fairtax'.... a consumption tax similar to the vat, but replaces all the opther taxes, such as income tax, payroll tax, sin taxes, etc

A VAT on top of the other taxes... is excessive

Toyota's, Kia's, Hyundai, Beemers, VW's Audi's all have factories here.
Rolls/Bentley was thinking about production here as this is where the market is for their product.

Most of the GM products are made in China and Mexico. Buick is exclusively made in China.

Rolls Royce is not moving production they only make just over 4,000 cars a year and have just expanded their plant at Goodwood and opened a new technology centre at nearby Bognor Regis, and the same applies for Bentley at Crewe.

They are both increasingly selling more cars in the Middle East and China, whilst the UK is free to make a free trade deal regardng cars once we leave the EU.

Trump is threatening the EU because the EU puts a 10% Tariff on American imported cars, whilst the US only applies a 2.5% tariff.

It's all just bluster, there is no way he's going to put a 25% tariff on cars, and it should be noted that any car tax would massively damage the US the thid largest manufacturer of automobiles.

Here's the impact of tariffs on the US and Canadian Auto Industries.

You can’t possibly be a “working class” hero. A consumption tax is a highly regressives tax. Do you know what a regressive tax is?

The fair tax is also crappy. The only fair taxes are user fees for government privileges. If you hold a copyright or a patent, you should have to pay for the upkeep of its enforcement. Contracts should cost money. If you drive over a bridge , you should pay. People should pay for the road they drive on which is why I like fuel taxes. If you want public police and fire protection, you should pay according to the the need. Why should we all pitch in got a long ladder for one building?
The state should all be funded by property taxes. Now I do not like large and expansive government but to draw a line around a parcel of land is at the whim of the sovereign. You pay. Why should anyone else pay?

Your tax taxes people who produce things or people who consume thing that do not have a public cost. The only benefit to the fair taxe is ending the intrusive da guberment surveillance of out finances with income taxes.

Its far better than a privatized system of user fees for roads, tuition, health care, child care and on and on it goes. A consumption tax should be added to the already existing income and payroll tax system of course, not simply as a replacement like neo-feudalist "libertarians" want. The people at the top will pay far more into the system with a consumption tax than a privatized user fee system like we have now for most services. Say the top 0.1% consume $1 000 000 worth of goods and services per year. Thats $100 000 in federal revenue at 10%, while the bottom 70% would pay maybe $3000 into the system.

the sticker say final assembly... not made in ...

there are 3 types of car manufacturing/assembly:

1. Completely Built-up Unit

2. Semi Knocked Down

3. Completely Knocked Down = this is what the foreign car makers do in the states. they assemble the parts (which come from all over the world). this is also what American car makers do in Europe or Asia or Canada or Mexico

if the market is small, they just import completely built up unit or Semi knocked down kits (they just add batteries/tires)
