Why wouldn't they be given our trade polices? They can make them there tax free.

Conventional post-1970 Republicans. With the populists faction in charge, they're all for tariffs. But the populist faction sure is big on libertarian-tinged traditional values and restrictive on foreign trade.

Parties have switched. 10-12 years ago, some local republicans were pro-small business and advocated for really minor issues that would take small-medium sized business out from regulations. Big business republicans and democratic pro-labor successfully figured out how to cooperate and crushed the local republicans. Seems like that is happening at national level, too.

But lately, lots of new media and new technology companies are engaging with the democrats, so big business republicans are in retreat.

The price of domestic steel and aluminum will go up after tariffs (which are really TAXES) are imposed on imported steel and aluminum. Domestic producers won’t have competition from imports so they will jack up their prices.

The cost of manufacturing those automobiles in the US will skyrocket.

The ones who are going to lose in all of this are the American consumers, as usual.

Why should I buy the garbage made in the American Bangladesh?

Besides, there is no such thing as buying “American” anymore. The Logistics/supply chain is more complicated than you think.

Yup, for us too. There is a lot of " buy Canadian " talk happening in Canada right now, but it's almost impossible, to do it completely.

The world is too integrated now.
