Looking up where foreign cars are manufactured, his religious following may have voted for their own demise. Every single one of these are red states.
Toyota manufactured in Kentucky, Indiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia
Honda manufactured in Ohio, Indiana, Alabama
Nissan manufactured in Tennessee and Mississippi
Subaru manufactured in Indiana
Hyundai manufactured in Alabama
Kia manufactured in Georgia
Volkswagon manufactured in Tennessee
Volvo manufactured in South Carolina
Mercedes manufactured in Alabama, South Carolina
My wife's Chevy Suburban was manufactured in Canada.
Tariffs apply to imports from foreign countries, not to anything manufactured on U.S. soil.
And what about the parts that are imported? If the price of cars goes up, sales go down, and production will be cut. Cut production and jobs will be cut.

Car parts imported from foreign countries would pay the usual tariff at the border when they enter the country I assume unless Trump is planning to raise the tariff on foreign auto parts as well.
If Trump puts a tariff on foreign cars, other countries would retaliate of course. What U.S. exports they would target is unknown at this point.
Trump thinks implementing a 25% tariff on foreign cars before November will help Republicans keep the House and the Senate.
"Raising the price of foreign cars would be the latest in a series of aggressive trade moves by Trump, who is betting that his supporters will be more focused on the protection of local jobs than on the increased costs for consumers, or the potential loss of jobs in U.S. factories that make parts for foreign cars."
"But before he can impose the penalties under U.S. law, Trump must first get the Commerce Department to declare vehicles like Toyotas and Audis a security threat."
So Trump ios going to have China, Japan, the EU, Mexico, Canada and the rest of the world which accounts for 95% of the worlds population putting massive tariffs on US goods and services and boycotting them.
Great strategy Trump - that should help US industry.
Most tend to vote for the party and not policy. Especially on complicated economic matters. Their following is more religious like than a rational one.
If party affiliation were no longer on the ballot, most of America wouldn't know how to vote.
I agree, but most people seem to think it is only the other guy.
If Trump had a D next to his name instead of an R, the Republicans would be blasting the tariffs, and the Democrats would be praising them.

Toyota ( Camry?) is the most US made car when you get down to parts.

65 billion deficit is a security threat... sorry, if you are too blind to see that... and you cannot separate Toyota from ALL the other steel/aluminum users out there... if they don't IMPORT their steel/aluminum products (made in the US) then they have NOTHING to worry about the tariffs... idiots...
