The Democrats will never support any amount of border security. They want open borders, as their acts have proven. Trump should guarantee his re-election by fighting for U.S. citizens over illegal aliens.
The wall is only a small part of the problem. The big problem is Republicans, who had complete control of the government for two years, and ended their run with very little legislation passed and a shutdown that they don't know how to resolve. The Democrats had to come in and fix the Bush train wreck, and now they have to fix the Trump train wreck. Sooner or later the voters should get the idea that electing Republicans is not good for America.
The bigger problem is government. Blame both sides for drawing lines in the sand on every single issue. The way to fix this is to eliminate gerrymandering.

The biggest problem is that we do not have a competent leader, as president and commander in chief.
Once again, it's not Trump's wall. It's congress' wall that they approved back in 2006 but was not completed nor built as promised. Instead much of it is flimsy fencing that can and has been breached instead of the double barriers in the bill. Trump wants to fix that. What's the problem? The Trump administration countered for half the funds and yet the Democrats said no. In fact Schumer said "no wall, period". The ball is in the Democrat's court now.
"In fact Schumer said"
Both Shumer and Pelosi will suffer like Kerry did when he made his," I was FOR it BEFORE I was AGAINST it", statement.
BOTH of them are on record for defending building a wall and appropriating funds to build one and voting for the "'wall".
Where there is a will, there’s a way. You won’t stop immigrants from coming here illegally. It’s not possible in a country this size and with the freedoms we get to enjoy. This is trump’s wall, it was his number one campaign promise. His glass ego is on the line and he’s desperate.
Keep the government “slightly closed” like it is now and screw that wall that the American people have no interest in on the whole.
"Where there is a will, there’s a way. You won’t stop immigrants from coming here illegally."
So, we should just give up trying?
Where we DO have appropriate walls illegal crossing have diminished greatly.
We do NOT live in Utopia.
We do NOT stop all murders, robbery's, drunk driver's etc, but we STILL have laws against such actions.
Even if we stop HALF, it would be HUGE improvement and a success.
Shutting the government is a slap in the American people's face, not the Democrats. The government should not be closed, paychecks depend on it, loans depend on it, and people depend on their tax returns, etc. I'm pissed it's shut down, and I want the wall. There were many other options.
PLEASE no more talk about the logic of the wall. The question had to do with the Democrat politics of holding out and punishing the government workers and contractors to make a point. is it worth making the government employees suffer to make a stand on the issue if you are a Democrat?
The government is not slightly closed because 66% of the non-DOD government workers are either working without pay or in furlough status.
Trump had the opportunity to keep the gov open because a plan was placed in front of him. It was only and until he listened to the talking heads like Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham that he changed his mind and didn't sign it because he was worried that his supporters would get upset.
Both Dems and Republicans did not want to close gov. Trump didn't care and said he would own it so place blame if you must on dems but, I heard what Trump said.
