I'm so sick and tired of whenever there's a shooting or whatever, all these old people that have no idea what they're talking about like to blame video games, like after Columbine they pointed out how the shooters liked to play DOOM. It's not even a liberal/conservative issue as all of them like to blame video games for people behaving badly, like in '93 it was the democrats who had hearings and criticized violent video games, and mortal kombat.

Well, if the whole issue is "it causes people to be violent" shouldn't we ban sports? How many times after a sports game have crazy drunken sports fans went out burning cars, getting into fights, rioting etc.? All the time! But it's the video games that are the problem...sure.

I just hate how they always want to throw their 2c in things they no nothing about.
No, I don't think video games have nothing to do with it. In fact, some of the most brutal killers in history were never into video games period. They are just psychos, period.

Add in the internet where people with warped racist ideas that espouse the desire to get rid of certain groups and finds support for those warped ideas, and you have a recipe for violence.
But why doesn't Europe have the same problem with violence.

And no... There are millions who play these games and never go on to try and act it out in person, myself and my family included. I have been gaming since the 1980s. No problems.
Yes, it is a different sort of thing. I was just pointing out that if it can trigger seizures, maybe it does effect our brains in more ways than we know. Someone with mental illness could have "short circuits" that something in the graphics triggers. Do I think it would make them think, "oh, I think I'll go kill someone"? No, but it may affect their brain is some way that isn't good. I don't know.
Honestly, I am just opining and know nothing about it.

Do we even know if these last two guys played video games like that.

Not all gamers play those games.
Not all young folks play video games.

Yes-

I think that violent video games and movies desensitize people to violence.

The left loves the violent entertainment industry, hates Christianity, and has created the single parent family as the model for America. So the left creates a social cauldron for violence, then blames guns?

No, of course not.

BUT

The more violent examples are just another part of the demoralization of society and culture.

We don't value life the way we used to.

We don't value morals the way we used to.

We don't care about each other the way we used to.

We don't care about our country the way we used to.

And things like violent video games becoming the norm is just a result of that downhill slope.

Along with violence in the movies, over sensationalized news reports and accusations of hate driving the 24-hour news cycle.

We've become numb to what a bunch of ass***** we've turned into.

No, but it gives cover to those on the pro gun right who want the spotlight on ANYTHING else... Be it video games or the mentally ill, despite the fact that most psychiatrists will tell you the mentally ill are more I ineligible to be victims, not commit mass shootings

So, I take it from your allegations that YOU ARE an expert in the area of mental health, specifically relating to causal effects of prolonged exposure to things like video games ? If you aren't all you are doing is guessing. Which is it ?

Now, I have to give you that even the people who are experts, and who do research in this area, have mixed opinions on whether playing video games, especially violent video games like Fortnite and others, can cause "certain people" to become more violent and lack empathy for others. One study by the American Psychiatric Association concluded that YES there was a link between video games and hostile behavior and lack of empathy, and other studies are not that sure.

My take on it is this way, Azureth, I liken video game playing to watching porn on the internet. 95% of the people who view porn or who play video games will not have any adverse effects from doing either one. However, there is a certain percentage of people who will become so obsessed with porn that they are consumed by it and it might cause them to do destructive things in real life. Same with video games, a small percentage of people become so desensitized by blowing up other players that they might want to see how that works in real life.

So, the bottom line is, you don't really know, nor do I, but it sure seems reasonable to me that a person who spends all their time in their basement, glued to a monitor, not interacting with actual people, and who think it is fun to blow up people on that computer screen might just be more apt to become one of the shooters that we are seeing way too much of.

One thing is certain.........SOMETHING is causing all this to happen, we just need to find out what and how to stop it.
