And you can knock of the patronizing attitude. It's totally uncalled for. And just FYI, I'm a middle-aged woman. I don't think either "pal" or "dude" is appropriate. Not that I expected you to know that. But since you're so above "pigeon holing" people ... you probably shouldn't be assume anything about "a population." And cut the innocent act, anytime that's inserted into a response, you know very well it's meant in a smart-alecky way.
OK, listen ma'am (or miss, or madam, or lady, or whatever term you find to be acceptable..feel free to choose for me), let's clarify some things and hit the reset button shall we?

I quoted your statement and used the word unfair (not unfffaaaaaiiir if you notice) but I was speaking generally, perhaps I should have been clearer in my diction. My patronizing attitude is born of reciprocation, in my eyes (again remember my statement was meant to be general) you came at me first..so I hit back. That's how we do things back East and from the guidance I've received from other Portlanders, that's going to be my biggest point of acclimation when I touch down there..we'll see how that goes.

So what do you say, let's shake hands and call truce for the good of the whole?

It's not necessary to call me anything. I just don't see the need to be disrespectful. Your post could very well have begun, "OK, let's clarify ... " see how that works. No need for disrespect, or patronization. Or knowing if I'm male, female, old, young ... or anything.

If you're not directing your statements to me, you should not quote what I said, and then address my post directly. How is one to take it any way but directly? If you did not mean it to be direct, don't quote me.

And in no way did I "come at you first." You responded to a post I made to someone else, quoted me and called (as far as your post read) me unfair. So how is it that I "came at you first?"

I'm have no problem with you, personally. I don't know you. I'm just going to answer back to things (especially that are directed to me), with which I have a problem - or a comment to make. That's the way boards work.

I think most of us doubt the whole story at this point.

You are welcome to doubt whatever you wish, but that does not change the fact that i'll be there soon.. And I still find it almost impossible for a 5000 acre forest to be patrolled nightly(and cover every square inch).. From what I've read on the "official" sites about forest park there are only a HANDFUL of rangers, and the cops don't patrol the park, just the rangers, who CALL the cops if needed.. That's from official websites.. Its a BIG place, where people can easily get lost!

I'm disappointed that so many people have chosen to behave like school yard bullies picking on the kid who walks to the tune of a different drummer. A homeless person comes here and he's accussed of being a liar and wanting attention. Is that the mentality of Portland? Really?

I think it's great the homeless have access to the internet because it has proven to be a powerful survival tool for people from many walks of life. It's pathetic that people make fun of that. Being on the internet isn't a sign of luxury. Free internet is readily available almost anywhere. We took advantage of it while we were on our road trip vacation. The first thing we did when we hit a new area was find a hot spot.

There was an elderly homeless man who was a member of City Data for quite a few years. He lived in one of the Carolinas and headed up to Vermont last spring. For whatever reason, he decided to stay in Vermont for the winter. I don't think he survived.

What's sad is he received similar treatment but not nearly as harsh as this thread. He worked his entire life, owned a home and became a homeless statistic. It seems a morge statistic too. The same could happen to the OP. I hope karma comes back to haunt everyone here who has treated the OP like he's not worthy of kind word.
