Is it supposed to be worse Wednesday or be worse the coming Sunday? I am hearing differing things (I still think the forecasters are just paid liars).

Can you post any pics, Met? Agree or diagree, it's nice to see you around (the other forum is so boring without you, I never check it anymore...)
Camera bit the dust, sorry.

Today is cold and clear and there is supposed to be another storm coming in tomorrow.

The other forum can KMA. Buncha freaks and the whirring of black helicopters there has become rather tedious. They probably even think I care that they are reading this.

Default snow?

Hi -
I am brand new to this forum. I live in Wisconsin (born and raised in the Bay Area and moved to WI about 30 years ago) and I am sick of snow and below freezing weather. I am thinking of moving to Portland when my daughter graduates from high school (in about 3-4 years).

So you get some snow in Portland? How often does this happen and how long does it last?

Usually once or twice a year and it lasts just a few days. Higher elevation areas are usually harder hit then downtown.

Our arctic temps and snow usually comes to an end when a fresh rain storm moves in. However it starts out as rain but hits the ground and instantly freezes. That's freezing rain and absolutley paralyzes the entire area. (sometimes for hours but sometimes for days)

No, this is just the part of the country that forecasters are sent to to learn humility. Because of the Gulf of Alaska, the jet stream and the Pacific ocean, it's extremely difficult to forecast out here. So most forecasts that cover more than a day out tend to be wrong (unless it's winter and they predict "showers" in which case they have a better than 50% chance).

I get the technical weather discussion out of NOAA Medford and I had to laugh the other day, because the forecast started with a "the models are giving us a ridiculous forecast we don't believe anymore, so we're ignoring them and here is our best guess"

ok now seriously the novelty has worn off. Most of the "snow" is now consolidated into icy sidewalks where you have to take half steps to not slip, while listening to tire chains are rattling with each car, tearing up the roads. The below freezing temps has sapped my (already low) energy levels into nothing. The dryness is not helping. For the first time since moving here over a year ago I'm getting chapped lips. And we've got more of this on the way? This is preciesly the kind of crap weather I was hoping to get away from by leaving Massachusetts. Grrr. It better at least be pretty.

I agree! I hate the snow period...oh so I'm a bad person? I don't like the snow and the cold weather it brings. So no I'm not going out to play in it and I'm fine with it! These people and there arrogant ides that if someone doesn't like what they like or see things the way they do, there is something "wrong" with them. Please.

we could trade and then we'd both be happier.
its been either totally clear or a teeny bit of patchy skies for a good week. Staying steady around 24-28degrees.
I got really really excited this morning...called everyone I know to report we finally got snowfall......I was SSSsssoooooo excited. Then it stopped. Rather quickly.
I was counting the snowflakes as they fell from the sky. I only got up to 9.
sigh.
We have a divided household here. My husband HATES snow. the rest of us LOVE snow. So, we just simply torment each other. Sadly, he is in the lead. But, I shall continue to hope!
now truly, i could NOT live somewhere that gets feet of snow each year, and keeps it for months on end. For me, it'd be overkill. But a week or so a year would be just up my alley!

We've had several inches on the ground since early Monday morning, and tonight and tomorrow we're supposed to get some more! Yay!

The kids schools were closed Mon & Tuesday. Today they're back in session but the weather guy said schools would most likely be closed again tomorrow. We've been down in the teens temps with freezing rain expected later today and lots more snow on the way as well.

This snow is really powdery. We couldn't make a snowman or very good snowballs with it, either... but it's fun to stomp around in and throw!

I'll try to post some pictures... gotta put them on photobucket first...
