So, what are the odds REALLY of the power going out if we get snow?

I refuse to buy anything called "potted meat." I'll either brave the roads and find somewhere with power (ie, heat), or I will huddle under blankets with my dog and eat my storm supplies of Doritos, bananas, and three-cheese semolina bread.
snow doesn't bring down power unless people hit the poles or we get ice

Doritos sound good I want some now!

You think Earth Faire will be open? Clerks won't be able to drive in to get to work.

Do you remember what I said?

I need to drive my son to Rex hospital for surgery on Monday that can't wait. I'm trying to figure out how to do that. Anyone have a tank I could borrow?

The Wine Merchant sent out a very cute email last night to folks on their distro. They reminded us to stock up on wine before the big storm and are giving us a Winter Storm discount in their stores.

as of 11:18AM, weather.com has us (mostly) in the 12"+ band - but oddly, WRAL isn't predicting more than 10" for anyone in the viewing area right now...hmm...this could get interesting.

I propose a new forum rule: Anyone who actually wanted a big snowfall is not allowed to complain about anything with regard to the mess headed our way!

I'm ready for it. I have bread, milk, eggs, wine, beer, sled... and bananas. I skipped the potted meat. I had about 40 things to do this weekend and they all got canceled.... it's weird how things stop here. I'm still not used to that and I've been here nearly 3 years! Looking forward to staying in my pjs this weekend.... hmmm... maybe I can persuade DH to paint a few walls for me while we're snowed in!

Ha! i was just thinking the same thing! After we get "hit" we'll have a whole new thread on how southerners can't drive in the snow, local officials did a horrible jobs preparing the roads, the streets didn't get plowed fast enough or at all, their power was out for too long, NC should have buried power lines, TWC customer service sucks, PSNC and Progress Energy rates are exorbitant, not enough stores are open, the sidewalks should have been salted, they shouldn't have canceled schools, not enough roads were blocked off for sledding, stores should have plowed their own parking lots, more shelters should have been opened and there aren't enough movies left at blockbuster!!

But then again those that are here can participate in all of the threads titled "Who remembers the snowstorm of Jan 10?" and we can all tell our over exaggerated stories about snow drifts 5 feet tall, power outages for 3 weeks, and gas lines and people were scrambling for snow shovels and sleds and bananas and potted meat!
