Next time I get taken out I am ABSOLUTELY getting zebra cakes. Only if he orders zebra cakes first, though.
If he orders a smaller-than-a-zebra-cake I'll get that instead.
Challenge accepted! I will order either zebra cakes, or a slim Jim and glass of wine. I know on the drive there Im going to have short bursts of maniac giggle in anticipation, but I'm going to say it with a straight face. Then announce: "I'm buying."
It's my own little test.
That would be similar to people who extend an insincere dinner invite to their home, hoping to not ever be taken up on it.
I'm thinking it's possible the OP gave his date an insincere carte blanche to order whatever she wanted.
And she did...
Surprise!
That would be totally different. Hosts, be they dates or any other nature, can communicate that the guest should get whatever they want, no worries. Like what looks good to you? You know, the steak and lobster here is very good, so is the ___________. Simple. Now the guest knows to get whatever they want.

I KNEW you were a good date.
BTW, Slim Jims have REALLY gone up in price...just sayin'. (sending psychic vibes to RBCCL to order the Goldfish au Crackers instead)
All the things we talk about on here are first world problems...........
Yeah trivial.
