We met a neighbor last week (we are relatively new here) and listened to 15 minutes of how successful he was. "Was" being the key word. After hearing for the fourth or fifth time about his phd (zzzzzzz) and how successful all his kids are we got the flat tax speech.

I always chuckle when I hear the flat tax spiel from a "successful" person. Translated it means everyone gets taxed, but I still get to keep my loop holes.

What a load of crap.

In case no one is paying attention the auditing of large companies isn't happening much any more. The amount of time allowed for an audit of large corporations has been severely limited. Limited to the point that auditors do no have sufficient time to find all the monies that they tuck away so it's not taxed.

And if you are a person who decides they don't want to pay taxes then don't. The rate of auditing is dismal and getting worse. The IRS is, and has been over the last few years, being gutted. Everyone has a hissy fit over spending and national debt, but it seems few understand that a large part of the problem is the lack of income from taxes. It is going to get so much worse over the next decade because of the millions that will be put out of work by the coming automation revolution.

Hang on, it's going to be one Hell of a rough ride.
How's that green eyed jealousy thing working out for you?

I believe you did TF. Those before and just below you are in a place I just don't see. Viva la difference? A lot of that here. Everyone has a voice. Yours' resonate. Interesting thread for my first post .

Kudo's to the people who recognize that Eliz Warren is working for for the majority of the people.

There is much to be learned from the great thinkers who founded our country. One of those men was Thomas Jefferson.

In 1962, President Kennedy welcomed a group of Nobel Prize winners to a dinner in their honor by saying: “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House — with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

Here’s what Jefferson said about the topic being discussed on this thread:

“I predict future happiness for Americans, if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

Tek_Freek, your comments are like spitballs hitting a battleship.

But "no" would make sense, since the payment would be 3.9% of whatever you are receiving annually.
Senator Murray from Washington is also helping get the bill introduced. The country may know a decision by December 18.

The SAVE Benefits Act would provide $580 more for a beneficiary in 2016 as early as January, according to Murray’s office, and would push 1 million Americans out of poverty.
That presupposes the bill could be passed before the Senate adjourns for Christmas recess Dec. 18.

Well that's a huge relief. My dog has a higher IQ than Murray.
