Anyone take a risk without firm knowledge you will come out OK? (beach, gorgeous)

You're welcome. I plan to post about my move and new life in retirement. Right now I'm just full of inertia, pretty sure it's a consequence of all those years of night shifts. I just take forever to get going. I am focusing on chiropractic and deep tissue work and other health-related things and it's not that interesting, certainly not novel, so I haven't been posting about myself. Leaving Massachusetts April 18 with my dog transporter and a third person. She says she's not sure how long it will take us to drive the 2200 miles "depends on the weather and the speed limits."
I know about inertia. That is part of the problem for me. I am noticing tho I have an urge to "get rid" of stuff....... here I come with lots of stuff, Salvation Army.
If you would like to talk about yourself, DM me. I'm interested. I have some health concerns, too. I keep thinking of finding new doctors in my new location. Especially a good glaucoma ophthalmologist.
In 1984 a friend, her 2 kids and me left Syracuse, NY driving to Colorado Springs, CO. I unfortunately had some kind of virus so could not help much with the driving. But it took us about 5 days. We went up through Canada, I want to say Windsor but not sure. One day at a time!!
LookingAtFL: Thank you for sharing your message with me. I love how your move happened. Sometimes just the simple hearing of someone else's story is the fuel we need to get going. I'm glad for you.
My kitties are house cats. My neighbors aren't enthusiastic about looking in on cats. I'm pretty sure I will not keep them when it is moving time. I've been wanting a small beagle for a while and think that will be my new pet once I get there. Need someone (dog) to keep me moving, go for rides in the car, etc.

In another post, you said they are family. What would you do with them if you move?
When I was 75, I started using a white cane for walking around. It was wonderfully and surprisingly liberating, I thought "I can do anything". Because of reduced vision, I had pretty much given up traveling about ten years earlier. So I went to CheapOAir and booked a ticket to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which is a part of the world I never thought I'd have a chance to see. I figured, the worst that could happen would be to hail a taxi, go to the airport, and hand somebody my credit card and say "Get me home".
Needless to say, I loved it, and in the four years since, I've gone to 30 countries on six continents, all by myself, no tours, just independently finding my way around.
But wait -- that's nothing. Last year, I walked out my apartment and shut the door, all my worldly possessions in a carryon bag, to fly to Manila and meet, for the first time, the woman I had committed myself to marrying. Everything perfect so far.
Have you ever tried a cruise out of NY to break up the monotony of your daily life? There are cruises all year. Everything you need would be on the ship. Plus you would get some sun in winter. From Central NY, I would think Amtrak would be an option. Cruises are popular with seniors. You would just have to get over boarding your cats.
Kitties = family = rehoming them. Nobody ever said life is easy. I love my kitties very much but also have to start loving myself more. I know people who would take them. I'm not worried. They will be well taken care of. I took a cat for a ride to NC a couple of years ago. She did not do well and died about a month or two later from a stroke. It has been my experience (more than once) that cats do not travel well (at least not long distances).
Cruises????? Certainly you jest.
Upshot = mid winter break = think you read that wrong.

The issues with pets can be very serious. Pets are not cheap unless you just do not use veterinary care. Trying to find rentals that take pets can be an issue. Unless you can pay for boarding, pets make travel difficult if not impossible. My wife and I have had cats all our lives, usually 2 cats, sometimes more. The last cat was really expensive with special food, daily meds, and many vet visits.
We finally decided no more pets. Both sons in law are extremely allergic and could not even visit our house. It looks like one grandkid will be the same.
