I've never been there. Teach this person here. What's so good about the city? Love the Spurs by the way (not my favorite) -hurtin'-

I've lived in a lot of major metropolitan areas around the country and San Antonio is one of the best. I've been here since 1988 and don't plan on going anywhere. We've got it all and the cost of living is a huge plus!

As a soon to be resident who previously spent a year there, I would say, in no particular order:

Love - Fresh air, beautiful natural environment (Hill country)
lower density
room to enjoy without feeling boxed in
great food
lower cost of living
nice people/good manners
nice homes
Texas culture and music
Rain! (a rarity where I'm from)
People take pride in their state
Morgan's Wonderland (can't wait to take my dd with special needs there)

Hate- highways/roads in horrendous conditions (compared to where I am from; even in a tough economy problems are fixed quickly here),
Not so nice looking commercial/residential areas. Of course, some people would say the nicer Vegas 'burbs look too manufactured, but they are spotless and look great, so I guess it's just what you're used to.
Fewer parks
Lack of diversity in grocery stores, no Trader Joe's & Whole Foods is 20 (!) miles away (from where I'll be moving)
People throwing things out of cars (WTF?! I just never see that here)
Things are FAR, FAR away (compared to here, with everything practically in a 5 mile radius, ok the airport is 7 :-)

Well, we're on our way, so we'll have to check back on this list and see if impressions change. ;-)

I hate the killer Tower of Americas! It's evil. People here are fat and mean. The top detaches from the stick. The Alamo smells like poop. Sometimes the top collapses on the stick and kills everyone. Everything inside loop 410 is downtown. Did I mention that the crime here is awful? Sometimes the killer tower falls down and bounces back up, crushing its victims to their oblivion.

Love

- Friendliness
- The food, but not the abundance of chains. The LOCAL food.
- The cost of living
- The clean air
- Abundance of sunny days
- The new terminal at SAT

Dislike

- Traffic, and this city's endless inability to fix the issue
- Our 'say a lot, do very little' Mayor
- Lack of true multi-culturalism
- Our need to progress as a major city, but kicking and screaming all the way there
- Those who revel in their stupidity (which happens everywhere, but it's something that bugs me anyway)

Of course, there are always more- always less. These things tend to either fix themselves with time or become so polarizing that you simply end up moving away. I don't see any of my 'dislikes' as things that would make me immediately move, but the lure is always there. Not having been born here and lived many other places, I know what's out there. For now, for me, San Antonio suits best
