i wouldnt support a team because i have no ties to any of them , but i would watch
So, you want the quality of MLS (your own domestic league) to increase and you would support the product if it grew to your "standards" yet you dont take the time to invest into it now to help it grow? It seems to me that if you are an American soccer fan, you would want the MLS to succeed and past that. So, why not support it by watching it so that it can grow and increase in quality?
The league needs TV ratings, ticket purchases, merchandise $, and other areas of support for it to grow. If American soccer fans such as yourself dont invest in it, it is only going to take longer. If you jump on the train when it is going full steam ahead, you are just jumping on the backs of those of us that have been there since Day 1 in 1996 and spent all those years helping the league to grow to that point.
Soccer fans in the US (and Canada) are really a dull lot. They sure don't know how to celebrate championships like our other sports do which sounds snobbish to me.
After the Detroit Tigers won the 1984 World Series, more than 40 fans were arrested, many more were injured, three rapes were reported and one man was murdered.
About 10,000 Denver Broncos fans caused millions of dollars in damage after their team won the Super Bowl after the 1998 season.
Los Angeles had riots after the Lakers won NBA titles in 2000, 2009 and 2010.
Boston seems America’s capital of violent sports rioting: one death after the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2004, another after the Red Sox won the 2004 American League pennant, another after the Celtics won the NBA title in 2008.
A lot of these occurences were not done by sports fans, they were done by criminals who used a Championship as a reason to do so. You're talking about cities with millions of people and tens of thousands of fans and maybe a few dozen to a few hundred actually riot.
Many cities win championships without an occurrence. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fans or the sport itself.
