Democratic Senators -- completely absorbed with reconciliation for the recently passed Health Care Reform bill -- have put the passage of HR 4851 "on hold." HR 4851 provides a one-month extension of cut-off dates to May 5 for the EUC Tiers and other unemployment benefits, and to April 30 for the COBRA premium subsidy.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Republican Senators are now developing their own version of HR 4851 -- with a different source of funding. This suggests that they will fight Democrats' attempts to get HR 4851 passed by unanimous consent before the Congress takes its next two-week recess on March 29.
Certainly this is not the news any of us want to hear. I just cannot understand the methodology. When its not an understatement to say millions will be affected, I just cannot understand their reasoning behind not getting it done. It is reasonable to want to ensure the funding's source is established but I cannot imagine why this is such a hard issue to agree on. To go through the motions every thirty days when the time can be taken to make legislation in order at least through the fiscal year. I think the statistics are evident that unemployment will continue to remain high well into the next several years. To quibble on this; to not find a way to make this work, I just cannot understand.
It makes me believe that maybe there should be more restrictions and qualifications in place to get into the career field of being a politician. As most seem to make it a career, maybe we should have the measures in place to ensure these people are qualified by experience and education and not merely personal interests.
they got what they wanted healthcare has passed now they will end this illusion of actually caring for the american people. get ready for hard times ahead!

Just FYI -- health care reform legislation has been passed, but it still dominate's the Senate's time.
Last night -- in a session that ran nearly 9.5 hours to 3:00 AM -- the Senate voted down 29 Republican amendments to health care reform. They are back in session today, trying to complete the reconciliation work still needed on the bill.
Senate Republicans to Stall Next 30-Day UI Extensions
Multiple political blogs are reporting that Senate Republicans will battle Democrats if they try to push through HR 4851 -- another 30-day extension of the jobless benefits -- without first finding a source of funding that will not add to the deficit.
Senator Tom Coburn (R-Ok) -- a leader more widely respected by the Republicans than Jim Bunning -- is expected to lead the Republicans' effort to block HR 4851.

personally im so tired of this emotional roller coaster we have been on. these people dont care about us at all. they have shown it time and time again, they play with people's lives like its a game. there should be a list of all their home addresses posted, maybe then they would be a little more motivated to stand behind the american people

It has been reported that Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) have agreed to bring HR 4851 (the one-month extension) to the floor for a vote tonight.
Debate on HR 4851 will be limited to two hours, allowing only amendments that provide assistance. A final vote will then proceed.
Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) objected -- but there appears to be sufficient support from both Republicans and Democrats for the bill to be passed by the Senate tonight.
