The effect seems to be more pronounced the further west you go (of bright late springs and dull late summer). Here May has averaged 156 hours of sun in the last ten years; August just 112 hours!
Well usually it warms up to give my hottest weather in May then stays warmish to August and then it cools down gradually with a few blips in September. Folk say August is a summer month but in like Alaska and other places just a few degrees north of me winter starts in September so it is bordering autumn for me.
August in London is the 2nd warmest month, 2nd sunniest month (sunniest by %), and the first week of the month is the warmest time of the year on average.
Oh boy, this set up has 90F/32.2C+ written all over it
At least we might be ending this summer with a heatwave....
Yeah, you're in a good spot to get some heat from this. Northeast not so much but it will definetly warmup this week. Heat Wave should be confined to the south and also west of the Appalacians.
New England going to go back to below normal/seasonable after Friday and into September. Maybe low 40s for northern New England Sunday morning
Also want to note...notice the 500mb height there... 591. Not as strong as last month which I believe was 600? So the heat might not be as intense, long lasting or widespread.
NorthEast Monthly Departure from Normal. We might actually end up below for August even with this warmth this week.
BDL is -3.2 below normal right now.
Windsor Locks, CT (BDL) current August monthly mean temp is 69.6° as of the 18th. June's monthly mean temp was 69.5°. Interesting
