I'm thinking about Navy or Air Force, since they have better opportunities than the Army and Marines. The reason why I probably won't do the Navy because of the ship thing. Has anyone been in the Navy, and been on those ships? What's it like?

Why such an aversion to ships? Most people tell me they are so big, you don't even realize your in the middle of the ocean. That is a great place to learn practical skills that could serve you very will in the private workforce. My boss served in the army and was trained as a mechanic. His role actually prepared him well for private sector employment. Pretty much all branches offer great opportunities for those interested in learning.

So if I continue searching for a job and I finally get an interview, what should I say if the interviewer asks me about what have I been doing the past year since I graduated?

Yep, still no job. I even have a folder in my e-mail account with those conformation messages that they received my application. An example of a response I got was: Thanks for applying. We will contact you if we have an open position you qualified for. Your application will remain in our records for X days. Afterwards, you may choose to reapply.

Who ever said join the military - that is a great idea. At your age, you could join the military, save a lot of money (don't waste it on cars, etc) and use it to start a business doing something you love (lawn care, car repair, whatever). There are lots of programs for veteran owned small businesses.

I've got three kids in college, two of them solely on Pell Grants at the community college, the other one attends a four year college using a Pell and student loans. I highly recommend the community college route for at least the first 2 years. All three were home schooled and had home school records. At the community college you take a placement test so even the SAT's (my kids did take them but only the one in the 4 year college required it) aren't necessary. My kids intend to transfer to the local state university after they get their associates degree which will cost more but even then they will qualify for Pell grants and hopefully with their grades some scholarship money.

That sounds like a great idea! I could join the Army and sign up for infantry cause I wanna shoot bad guys and blow stuff up. But what should I do if the doctors at MEPS found a bad health condition that I didn't know about and I couldn't enlist?
