moving to san diego. Good schools and areas to buy a home

We are moving to San Diego area next year. We are looking for affordable home to buy but good schools is another issue for us. My husband is a piperfitter and will be looking for work. Would like to keep his commute time down to an hour. Are daughter is 9 years old and will be in 3rd grade in august 2010. She makes friends easily and loves to ride her bike outside. My wife and I are looking to relocate to warm fuzzy locale. We seek a creative, stimulating and rewarding enviorment and have found none of the above in SW Lousina. We came here to open our own home decor retail store. It was not to be. We now are looking for living situation which contains oppurtunity and challenge.
