Macanese aren't just a blend of Chinese and Portuguese. In fact the community didn't start off as a blend of Portuguese and Chinese it started as a blend of Portuguese soldiers, businessmen and diplomats mixed with South Indian, Malay, Japanese, and Sinhalese women later on Chinese women. There is documentation of the aversion of Chinese women to foreigners but they started liking the men because they were richer then the local Chinese men.

Some Macanese today are just Chinese whose ancestors converted to Christianity and then started adopting Portuguese names and culture.

This Macanese guy talks about it here (around 8:30)

He talks about how its possible that his ancestors were just Chinese and adopted a Portuguese surname when they converted to Catholicism. He looks completely Asian and would be laughed at if he called himself mestizo in the Philippines.

That would be like if most Filipinos identified themselves as Spanish mestizos just because they’re Catholic, have Spanish surnames, take part in fiestas, eat Spanish-derived foods (empanadas, chorizo, longanisa, paella, flan, chicharron, etc), and speak many Spanish words (most languages in the Philippines are 20-30% Spanish. Chavacano is 70% Spanish words). But no, Filipinos only identify Spanish mestizos based on how they look. Usually people only 25% or more European will look distinct enough to be considered mestizos. It’s not about having a distinct culture because almost all Filipinos have a lot of that same culture

Yeah, that's what happens in many other countries as well.

In Indonesia, which I know very well, most Eurasians behave just like other native Indonesian. I'm Dutch-Javanese Muslim from diverse family in term of religions. We can not start our day without rice. We often eat with our bare hands. Food without the kick of spices is BIG NO NO, that's why when I visit relatives in The Netherlands I bring my own sambal. Wearing Beskap/Kebaya for formal traditional Javanese ceremony. Considered Javanese as my mother tongue, Bahasa Indonesia as my 2nd language, speak broken English, have no clue about Dutch Language, etc.

Your family seems assimilated because you're so heavily mixed with native Indonesian. But what about the pure Dutch colonial families in Indonesia. What culture do they practice? Do you have any videos of how they speak or pictures of how they dress.

Did you even look at the two messages I sent you????? All of them live in the Philippines. They have their hometown and current location in the Philippines. These are Filipinos. You’re being completely dishonest right now. Sometimes they have pictures outside the Philippines because they go on vacation (duh) and some of the kids go to university outside of the Philippines. But the Philippines is where they live

Look at the thread title. This is about Eurasians still living in Asia. You’re proving my point exactly. Almost all the visibly-mixed Indonesian Eurasians live OUTSIDE Indonesia
