Surprising. Our spare car - 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII with a 32 valve V8 and a thirst for Premium that it does not get, gets the same mpg. And it is a heavy luxury liner, and I tend to drive too fast on the freeway (80-90)

Then there's this from Edmunds

Cons
  • Base engine's lackluster acceleration
  • Ride is a little firm for the class
  • Less rear legroom and cargo room than most competitors
Its faster than any compact suv under about $45k and performs similar to the Porsche Macan. Hence GTR trim.

Maybe not. The last time that gas prices spiked, there was a big difference in fuel economy between cars and SUV's - today not so much or not at all:

2007 Explorer 15/21
2007 Five Hundred 21/29

2019 Explorer 19/27
2019 Taurus 18/26

In 2019, the SUV gets better fuel economy versus the sedan using the same platform.

Mark VIII’s are shooting up in value

I'm not the one claiming it stood above all the others.

...and yes, a Marine definitely stands out!

I love my forum name....it makes people out themselves as insecure when they try to put down Marines. Of course, I've only ever seen this on the internet...NEVER in person.
Keyboard bullies...LOL they're cute!

You better get ahold of Motor Trend quick! They put out a list of the 13 fastest Crossover SUV's under $40k and the Mazda ranks......oh, yeah, it isn't even on the list!

I figured you'd "get it".

Yes, the CX5 definitely stands out in its field, and the GTR/SG trim levels stand out in the $40-45K arena, as well, even though they cost less.

Noone here is insecure about a Marine, or anyone else. That said, it was a perfect analogy because of how you're wired, you'd "get it", as well as the fact that many things about the USMC training DO stand out, even if they "look the same".

Back to our prior interaction, I believe you were attempting to bully initially, yes? It was cute, that is true.

It struck me that facts may not be the best way to reach you, when an emotional argument might suit you better, and it seems I was correct in my assessment. If you care to, you can google how much faster, etc. it is than anything else in its class, but I made my point.

Yeah, in 2018...This is mid-2019...

Here is the link:
https://www.motortrend.com/news/13-q...s-under-40000/

These are the top 3 on their list:
The BMW X2
Starting price: $39,395
0-60 mph: 6.3 seconds
Quarter mile: 14.9 seconds at 92.9 mph

The Infiniti QX30
Starting price: $30,945
0-60 mph: 6.3 seconds
Quarter mile: 14.9 seconds at 93.7 mph

The Mini Countryman S E ALL4
Starting price: $37,750
0-60 mph: 5.9 seconds
Quarter mile: 14.6 seconds at 88.3 mph

Here is their test of the CX5 GTR/SG:

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/mazd...t-test-review/
0-60 MPH 6.4 sec
QUARTER MILE 14.9 sec @ 93.6 mph

Yes the Mini is faster, but it's also...a Mini. I'd never own one because I value my time, and don't want to be with it in the shop all the time. The X2 was also faster, but it's also smaller, and again, shop time. The Infiniti QX30 was the only real competitor I saw on the list, and C&D got it performing identical to the CX5 GTR/SG in acceleration. However, A comparably optioned QX30 would have cost @$45K USD, and the only advantage it would have had would have been the automated park feature. That's it. For another $10K, I could have gotten the same thing, with higher maintenance costs, and it would park itself. But wait...now we are back in the $45K arena...just like I said.

Cool junk the CX5GTR has:

AWD, NAV w/weather radar, XM travel link, etc. street sign and road marking monitoring, lane assist, voice activated, command knob or touch screen (Legit like the CN feature), BSM, Sport mode (stupid but some people like it...), auto-hold at stoplights, air-conditioned and heated front row seats, heated second row seats. On and on, man. Has plenty of features, and the sound deadening is legit. I love how quiet the thing is inside.

As to the other stuff I like. The real-world fuel economy is amazing. I am averaging 25.5mpg since the time I bought the car, INCLUDING all the fun I had in it doing 0-80's and whatnot hooning around. Lifetime average 25.5 and climbing.

Also, zero turbo lag. Especially evident in the 5-60 times it lays down. Around 6.7 seconds compared to the Infiniti's 7.0 seconds. Hell, it's faster 5-60 than a brand new WRX STi...Mazda did some magic with their turbo.

For reference, the CX5 GTR/SG is only 0.2 seconds slower than the Subaru WRX 6-speed 0-60...
