So you're saying they should not have to go through the black market?

You would prefer for criminals to be able to walk into a legitimate, honest gun shop and buy a firearm? Really?

Why have laws against speeding? Criminals won't obey them.

This is a stupid law.
ok, how is it different from requiring a NICS check to purchase a firearm? It is illegal for a felon to possess the ammo as well, so why not require a NICS check for that?

Agree.

I personally have my hands and feet. I've had to use ITF Taekwondo a few times since I first learned it in high school and it has served me well. But I agree with the general point.

Laws don't stop anybody from doing anything. They just punish you afterwards. Do laws against murder keep people from killing someone?

So you do support laws against murder, or you do not? What about laws against speeding? Laws requiring you to be a minimum age to purchase alcohol, do you support that?

What laws like this do is make it harder for a felon to purchase a firearm or ammunition, while having no effect on law abiding citizens. You submit your photo ID for a NICS check, done. If we do it for the firearm itself, it makes sense to do it for ammunition.

Look, yes or no question. Should violent felons be allowed to have a firearm? Or did they relinquish their 2nd amendment right when they acted in a sufficiently violent manner to be convicted of a felony? I say they relinquished their rights. If that's the case, they relinquished their rights to ammunition too. Hence the NICS check.

Again, I don't see a problem.

Here's the fundamental problem. Suppose you try to post on City-Data, before you post they submit your content to State of California for a background check to satisfy certain criteria. How would you feel about that?

Oh wait, even before you are allowed to post, you need to apply for a "free speech card", thatwill cost you $50 undergoing background checks. Then every post your content will be reviewed and "approved", ummm... the content will be checked with your previous posts for "consistency" by the State. If it's judged inconsistent, the post may be declined.

If you agree with this, then I'll concede this law is OK.

If gun laws made us safer, Chicago would be three safest city in the world. It's not.

More gun laws only do one thing, lead to more gun laws.

So let me get this straight. You feel that ANY restriction on who can own a firearm is some kind of infringement on the 2nd amendment??

A violent felon who just shot three people and went to prison for 20 years...you're ok with that person carrying a firearm?

There are restrictions on the 1st amendment too. Especially in my case. "As a matter of national policy, the United States Navy does not discuss submarine operations". If I say more than that regarding certain topics, NCIS will come for me and I will be charged with treason. All rights have some kind of restriction on them.

I can play that game too. Why isn't Somalia the safest country in the world? No government to speak of, outside of Mogadishu, and everyone has a firearm. Your favorite vacation spot, right?

So a violent felon should have legal and easy access to firearms, correct? That is your position?

No, they already don't. One more law isn't going to do anything.

And Vermont has pretty lax gun laws, yet I never here about all the gun violence there? Maybe it's not the guns?

Okay, I'm not going to get involved in the above discussions, but I do have a question about the new law. I'm from out of state and have a vacation home in California. Will I be able to buy ammo at all? Or do you need to be a resident of the state (with a Cal. driver's license)?
