The only thing we have to do is trust in the redemptive work of Christ.

Okay. And then what? So you've escaped hellfire and damnation. Is that what it's all about? Was God's purpose in putting you here just to see if you could avoid that fate? And if you do (as supposedly you have), then you've met your goal and God's goal for you?

Yes. The subject is salvation. You’re talking about sanctification.

Do you know of any Scripture that supports the view that baptism is a work?

[quote=Thoreau424;62153586]It's not a "work". Not sure where you got that. It's a voluntary act that one has the freedom to do (or not do) in imitation of Christ.[/QUOTE

It’s a well know teaching. Ask any evangelical Christian.

Thank you for your kind words. I agree with your recommendation.

Thank you for your response. I’m thinking baptism is a response to faith. If we truly believe in Jesus, we do what He says.

I agree! There is a huge difference between works of faith or righteousness and works of the law, which is the works Paul writes about.

There is-- a mass of confusion in this world because satan is its ruler as Jesus said he was. Baptism is not a work Its a public display of one promising God to be his forever. To many blind guides.

Then, of course, we have Galatians 3:1-2 "You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard?"
We can never do enough. We are all sinners. However, this does not mean we shouldn’t do our level best to obey the commands of Jesus. Baptism corresponds to the deliverance of Noah and his family from the flood waters. It is an appeal for a good conscience. Our deliverance is made possible by the resurrection of Jesus, by His righteousness and deeds. It is not our work that saves. It is God’s work.
