I'm from the Midwest
People in Austin aren't known for ignorance, but rather for arrogance and attitude.

You know why I believe this. Because it's Austin. I love the city but you have to understand. It's the capital of Texas. Being in Texas, you already know they have an ego. Being the capital and you get an entirely different animal with Austinites. I do think the ego is subsiding in Houston and Dallas somewhat. But small town Texas.........HA

personally I think Texas has the biggest ego. here in California, most of everyone here accepts other states until they start spewing stuff about our state without having been here (missouri, midwest, boonies, south etc.) the biggest offender like I said is texas though

It's when you tell people the places they're from are the "boonies", that they tend to get offended lol.
Have you been to the places you call the "boonies"?

Most of the Californians I've ever met, and it's been alot, give me this attitude like California is the cradle of civilization and the rest of America is the "boonies", except NYC and maybe sometimes Chicago. Like they literally can't imagine large cities existing outside their state.

If I mention I lived in NYC I get some flak for that, mainly for rudeness, weather, and rats. If I mention I lived in New Jersey then I'm a hick. If I mention CT, well that's a toss up lol. I'm not saying it's just CA though, New Yorkers in the city for example, can really be the same way. I'm just saying, you guys seem to have more than your fair share.

A lot of you here are confusing ego and pride. Two very different things.

Anyways, I don't have a list or an answer for this thread. Every place is all in the same, people everywhere have the same problems. But that's what makes people sane, I suppose. At the same time, it's also what leads to controversies and hatred. But whatever, I'm only 20, I shouldn't really care... the world is my playground, not my state.

The same way Northerners always come down South and complain about the different day-to-day experiences as compared to the big bad Northeast.

Texas is mostly a pride thing. The Texas OVER-pride thing is STILL VERY annoying(and I'm a former Texan myself). All those Texas state stars on every single thing is kinda tacky and stupid looking. BUT here is what separates Texas PRIDE and NY ARROGANCE.

Texan: "Texas is awesome, I love Texas, Texas is the place to be"
New Yorker: " Where I'm from is AWESOME, where you're from sucks. I hate it down here, you guys are country bumpkins, you guys are whack"

THIS is the difference.

So one is inward focused and the other is outward focused...

From my experience, I would have to say CALIFORNIA - though you can never lump everyone together, I'll just say there's a higher percentage of people with big egos there. Even some family members who live there have it and didn't before they moved. I think it is because living in Cal is somewhat exclusive in that you can't just move from anywhere in the country and have a similar lifestyle because of the cost in all the major metro areas. It's like a "movin' on up" place and that may make the people who live there feel a little bit more special than everyone else.

In response to those who say TEXAS, I don't agree. I agree with the poster who said it may seem like they have egos because they are quick to defend their state. It's kind of like a cyclical effect... people take shots at them because they hear stereotypes, then their citizens fight back and those responses are interpreted negatively. I found the majority of people I met in Texas (have visited the Houston area twice) to be very nice and welcoming. They are very proud of their state, which I like, though I guess this can irk some people too who interpret it as elitism.
