My Japanese maples have started turning yellow and orange along the edges of the outermost leaves. I drove to Rochester last week and noticed an isolated tree here and there that started to turn yellow or orange but otherwise everything still green.

Locust Trees are changed here. They have the yellow colors and small leaves.

Some spots look like Fall for sure.

But mostly still green out there. 95% I would say

Warmth from cars and Oaks = Green heading into October soon.

How weather effects the foliage.

https://twitter.com/NWSCaribou/statu...17769727655936

Here in CT we had an awesome start to fall.
Summer was wet.
September was below normal and dry, until the last week of it and 1st week of October.

That ruined things IMO. Not only some trees are dull now but we're still more green than colors.

Now we have a NorEaster bringing salty Atlantic moisture but staying cool. Couple of cold shots coming so we'll see how it goes the rest of the season.

I don't believe this is anything new Cambium. Its always more green well into October, atleast here in Farfield County along the Sound. More colors come as you get closer to Halloween.

Nope, we used to have more color by Mid October. I only started doing comparison photos since 2013.

Check out 2014 & 2015. That's what it used to be like more often than not. That's ok, we'll go back to that soon. It's called Cyclical.

I try to wait for a sunny day to do the photo, so days wont be exact same.

back in the 80's and 90's I used to take the week of Columbus Day off to take foliage photos. My brother came from Calif. every year and in photos I took, he was wearing a knit hat and jacket. By the early 2000's I had moved my week off one week later in October - in some photos then my brother has no hat and is wearing a t-shirt. Foliage has definitely started later - but it's all good, beautiful when it comes. Your photos are beautiful.

Thanks. Yeah, with weather, climate, and history; you have to have a memory for it. Without a memory or a history book the truth wont be known and fake news can be spread..

Another way to remember it is leaf blowing. I remember leaf blowing in October and ending by mid November. Recent decades I been blowing leaves at the end of November into December some years too.

I got about 35% colors now. 65% still green. NorEaster Wednesday-Thursday so that should knock the ones already changed.

As a kid, I remember huge piles of leaves while trick or treating (70s-early 80s)
