We are seeing early turning here in TN as well. Many leaves are turning at the edges with some starting to display significant color. Saturday's high is in the mid 70s with lows in the low 50s. That is extremely rare for this time of year.

While one month doesn't signal a pattern for upcoming seasons, a pattern can return in the future. point is, this type of pattern we been in can continue or return for winter so sometimes you can catch a correlation in that sense.

I will never forget Fall 2014. Leaves started changing 3-4 weeks earlier.(end of August/early September) It felt and looked weird. Squirrels were going nuts as well. That was the winter we had the historic cold and long duration snowpack. Just saying, that's the last time I remember early changing.

I been comparing images from 2010 from my roof on same day. Cool to see what years were early/normal and late.

My town is at about 1200'. I have not been to the higher elevations since earlier this month. This is the earliest I can recall the leaves turning, and the bushes starting going red and orange earlier this month.

September 13, 2017. Wilton, CT.

Early year for colors but 85-90% still green. We started about 2-3 weeks earlier than usual this year.

Pattern changing to a warmer one so things should slow down. Otherwise we would be peaking incredibly early.

I've seen just a few trees in the neighborhood starting to turn. A couple of dwarf maples down the street are completely burgundy now. Our yard is still all green.

Ever since my last post here we've had Summer weather with 80s and 90s in spots and high humidity. Warm nights and no rain. It's affected the color changing process. It slowed it down big time.

You guys seeing anything new? I see more browns now.

I don't believe in part of this graphic..

"As autumn days grow shorter, Chlorophyll production slows and eventually stops, allowing other pigments to come through"
So they are saying weather doesn't play a role?? Is that why some years are early and late because the daylight length changes? lol

"Carotenoids do not change in response to weather"
So are they saying something else within the tree or leaves does?

"Anthocyanins produced from reactions with increased sugar in the leaves"
Guess what increases sugar reactions? Hot/Warm weather.

So weather does play a role both day and night.

October 8, 2017. More pockets of colors showing up out there. Late this year. Been well above normal past 4 weeks.

I need to stop relying on my phone. The burning bush was pretty vivid fusion color.

Saw some yellows out in the eastern part of the state today--out past Willimantic. Not much though. Leaves seem to be turning brown and even may have mold on them instead of being colorful. Lots of dead brown leaves on the ground.
