I know I say this often, but I thank god everyday that I don't live in lower Fairfield County. The towns may be among the most affluent and "desirable" in the country, but the quality of life kills people off five years earlier than usual.
Yeah agreed. Certainly better exit/entrance ramps and shoulder width in certain area's. Although 84 snaking dowtown hartford is worse or just as bad as any secion on I-95 in fairfield county as far as highway safety design goes.

People who live in fairfield county live there because that's where they make the $$$$, not because of good traffic. lol It's desirability is directly proportional to it's proximity to nyc.

Believe it or not, I-84 west of downtown Hartford is the busiest road in the state. Jay

Standstill I95 south since 11:15. Left and center lanes closed due to accident! It's midday and it still baffles me how fast it backsup . Where are these people going???

It's in Darien. Are they going to Stamford and Greenwich? All traveing through to ny??

I dont know which is worse. Population factor or amount of accidents per day.

Cambium, there are some theories about why I-95 in FFC backs up so much from an accident. One thing I've noticed is that it backs up much more than the NY portion, and I'd expect it to be a "tie" or the other way around. The main theory is the closeness of exits compared to other highways, even within the region.

Yup. And your right. Accidents that happen in NY don't back up traffic that quick plus I rarely see an accident on 95 in Westchester.

This was going North on Merrit this morning. Common scene. A Sea of cars. I enlarged the area where the cars were coming down the hill.

This is Westport. So you have Norwalk, Darien, Stamford, Greenwich. Is that where everyone is going in the morning? Or is the number of people travelling to NY more than we think??

What is it with you folks complaining about traffic everyday?!?!

Would you prefer an unemployment rate of 20% and an empty Merritt Parkway? Think of traffic as a blessing in disguise, especially in our current economy.

Move to Montana if it's really bothering you.

Anyone willing to make a bet that most of the people on the road creating traffic between 10-2pm aren't working? Would you say 55% of them arent? Could all those people have afternoon or nightime shifts?

Have you guys ever wondered what people do at all hours? You can be on the road or in a shopping center midday any day of the week and there's always a vehicle or people. I seriously doubt everyone is off and out at the same time.

Just trying to open some minds and maturely conversate about the traffic/congested disaster. But think about it.

Originally designed to carry 40,000 cars a day, today the I-95/I-91 interchange carries 140,000 vehicles, resulting in accidents, snarled traffic, frustrating delays, and a great deal of wasted fuel. http://fastlane.dot.gov/2011/06/new-...nnecticut.html
130,000 vehicles per day through Fairfield alone on just I95. Thats 6200 an hour. 104 a minute. Not all of them work in CT. Guarantee you that.

Rhode Island Turned Down for I-95 Tolls at the CT border.

The Federal Highway Administration has turned down a request from the state of Rhode Island to install tolls on Interstate 95, just over the border from Connecticut. Rhode Island had applied for one of three projects around the country seeking to use tolls as a way to fund highway improvements, but the money reserved for the third project is now destined for North Carolina. The other two projects are in Virginia and Missouri.
