We have an incredible temperature gradient across New England right now, with the backdoor front! It was 83 F this morning west of Boston, now down to the 60s, while BDL is 91 F. How come no one's talking about this?

Because we only like talking about the weather when we don't like the weather. DUH! It might be hot here in this very moment but we've had a long winter and spring so no one's going to say boo.

I just got back from work and didn't get a chance to all day. Eventually everyone is getting that backdoor front. Even NYC is now predicted to be in the 60s all day (my bet is their high tomorrow is at midnight tonight).

Looks like Boston was already 81 degrees at 8am when it kicked in and dropped to 62 in one hour! They are down to 58 now while everywhere west of the front is still in the 90s (BDR (Bridgeport) broke a record for the date with a high of 94, the previous record was 91 in on this date in both 1987 and 2013

What happened in Boston in one hour this morning (went from 81 at 8am to 63 at 9am) is now happening in CT!

BDL was gradual, went from 85 at 7pm to 78 at 8pm to 73 at 9pm

But BDR! Went from 88 at 5pm to 68 at 6pm! Down to 63 now

Weird numbers in and around NYC at 9pm. Central Park is 85, Newark is 92 (!), but LGA is 68! LGA went from 91 at 8pm to 68 at 9pm. Thought it was an error given CPK and EWR until I saw what was going on at BDR (and Islip, LI too....81 at 8pm, 63 at 9pm). That is some backdoor cold front!

10 UPDATE: Front went through Central Park, dropped from 85 to 63. But Newark still 90 and waiting for it!

So yesterday evening I had a 17 degree temp drop within half hour! Without rain.
24 degree drop in 2 hours.

National Weather Service New York NY

The region lies on the eastern side of a modest mid-level ridge,
with 500mb heights of around 585dm early in the day. At the surface,
high pressure sits off the Carolina coast, with a west to northwest
flow to start the day.

The backdoor cold front continues to move through eastern
Massachusetts and into Cape Cod as seen on radar and surface
observations. The backdoor cold front continues to move westward from New
London county Connecticut to the twin forks of Long Island.
Temperatures have been falling as much as 20 degrees with the
passage of the front.

Check that out! With all the rain we've gotten over the last year or so there's a small piece of CT that is in a "moderate drought" after a bit of a dry spell. It's crazy how fast that can happen.

I'll take some rain here and there so we don't end up like this - https://www.npr.org/2022/06/02/11020...t-conservation.
