Most locations never got much above the low 50's F today.

But you know April...after a low (maybe) of near 32 F this coming week across northern Connecticut...next week...

As a side note...while NWS Bradley might break a 70 year record...NWS Bridgeport is not that far behind. Obviously the records for earliest last freeze at Bridgeport are mostly in March instead of April like Bradley. The normal last freeze at NWS Bridgeport is April 7....this year the last freeze was on March 24th. While not as close to the record as Bradley, NWS Bridgeport should tie the 4th place record this year as the earliest last freeze. Unlike Bradley it looks like there is no chance of freeze at Bridgeport tonight or Tuesday morning. So the chance of freeze for NWS Bridgeport is likely over if you look at the NWS records.

If NWS Bridgeport goes until November 7th (their normal first freeze) before they record a low of 32 F (0 C) - they may end up with more than 210 freeze-free days this growing season...about the same as Richmond, Virginia

Current temps. So tired of it.

Yesterday the low was 7 below normal. The max was 9 below normal.

FYI.. Before yesterday we had 12 nights above normal in a row! Not the daytime max temps though thanks to clouds for the most part.

It looks like NWS Bradley fell to 34 F (36 F as of 6 pm obs). Strangely, NWS seems to have increased tonight's predicted low. Looks like two more chances for a freeze up at Bradley (tonight and Thur).

IF Bradley makes it past Tonight and Thursday...then this could be one of their longest freeze-free periods in 70 years.

Checking the NWS forecast this morning...looks like we finally have shaken off the pattern of clouds/light showers for a week or so - lol. Other than a very brief shower on late Tue night/early Wed, much of the week should be sunny and mild with highs near/close to 60 F.

Out into the longer term...CPC output from yesterday:

Again...this doesn't make sense. The weather records show that 32 F was reached in 2002 on May 20, and many other May dates since 1950. Can you guarantee there will be no 32 F readings in Hartford for another whole month?

LOL, if I could do that I would be the richest person on earth. LOL

Climate is a numbers and average game. While there as been a last freeze as late as late May, and in other years the last freeze was in early April (like this year). What's rare about this year (we'll see after tonight?) is that the last freeze was so early (April 8th). The "normal" final freeze up at Bradley is April 24th.

Data wise, a final freeze in May is a bit more usual up at Bradley:

From 1953 to 2023 (70 years)....26 times there was a freeze in May...and 44 times the final freeze was in April. After May 10th, the chance drops off fast, even way up at Bradley.

Tonight's CPC run for the long term (8 to 14 day outlook). Looks like normal precip and higher chance of above normal temps into early May for Connecticut and the Tri-State area:
