We're not talking about a snowstorm here... It's 1 & 2 inch snowfalls. That is a sad stat

The 684 days without a 1" snowfall for Central Park should have an asterisk though. It's solely based on calendar days. Feb 27-28, 2023 1.8" of snow did fall in a single storm (and in a period less than 24 hours) at Central Park, but 0.9" fell on the 27th up to midnight, then 0.9" fell on the 28th after midnight.

Thankfully, NWS does consider it to be a 1"+ snowfall for the record of "latest into the winter that the first 1" or more of snow in a single storm", which remains the winter of 1997-98, which did not see a storm of 1" or more until March 22.

Yeah, there was a sneaky fog/drizzle that showed up that day. Hate when that happens but you're good now for few days. Use NWS forecast and keep refreshing every 12hrs! https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...8&lon=-73.3984

========================

Next Weekend looks interesting as all models indicate a storm on the map. [STILL 7 DAYS AWAY SO GET THAT SALT]

They also indicate an E/ENE move staying south of Nova Scotia but that's too detailed right now. Might indicate blocking up north which would mean it wouldn't come up the coast, missing us.

Euro stays closest to the coast bringing an interior snowstorm including Litchfield county. Note the track, that's not a track for the coast snowstorm but there would be some snow for the coast.

German model is most suppressed south so we would get no precip

I've learned not to expect anything unless we're looking 3 days out. Especially when it comes to models in the winter season.

The real problem for those who want to see snow/cold... is that we really don't have a cross polar flow in the upper air, meaning a flow from the arctic down into the United States then eastward (black line). Right now it's the opposite flow (yellow line). So most of the cold is locked up in Canada and away from coming down into the United States. I don't see that changing anytime soon, at least as of the way things look now. It comes on strong, then weakens, then comes back....but it never really changes at least in the next 10 - 14 days.

As far as the models, I agree, anything after day 5 is always a 50 - 50 toss up. I've been seeing on TV some media outlets (like the Weather Channel) want snow/cold so bad they are trying to spin up anything they see. As the old forecaster Alan Kasper used to say, forecast with what you see, not what you wish you could see.

Just remember::: This far out, the models are going to waffle back and forth with the storm position Jan 6/7.

Some might show rain, others big snow.

As long as the storm is still on the map, we're still in the game. Stay tuned!

Two years ago just before Christmas and into January we had a pattern with no sun for two weeks. Last year December wasn't too bad but from the end of December to the end of January we saw shockingly little sun.

Welcome to the new normal: milder and grayer.

I saw blue sky yesterday, it felt a little odd after days of grey drizzle and fog
