Why is Russia still such a sad sack of a country, with all that mineral wealth and without the dual burden of maintaining a communist economy and keeping up with the U.S. in an arms race?

1991 was not a true revolution. Putin, a former KGB official who not only survives but thrives at dictator, proves that.

When will Russia experience a true revolution? Or are the Russian people only really happy when they are under the control of some drooling strongman?

It's a huge tragedy, both the past couple of years in Donbas and the very last week all over Ukraine. I'm still trying to figure out the logic though "you killed our child, now we kill yours"...who knows maybe Putin was hoping against all odds that such a massive conflict will avoid any civilian casualties which sounds like something from the far future, it's hardly possible to avoid it in a war, not these days.

Do you mean that we need to lie down under the USA ? After all, everyone knows that only rulers loyal to the West. they are legitimate and democratic. It doesn't matter how much blood they shed to come to power. The main thing is loyalty.

Otherwise, the SNN and others will start spewing fountains of dirt and moans about the dictatorship..

I have already written about what happened and why. Can't you see what's been going on for three months now? It is in terms of the deployment of this provocation that ended in military action.

Put aside all these crazy cries about the terrible Putin and bloodthirsty Russia, which suddenly attacked out of the blue. Analyze at least a little what is happening.

Tell you the truth I'm not a huge fan of Putin but I also realize if he is taken down the world will be far worse than what people can imagine. It will be one world with the "ideology of 52 genders" as you called it before or rather: no free speech and only America as a master of puppets. People still can't understand this, Russia has this thing about itself for trying to be a moral leader. China can't - the far east cares about money and money only. If America tells them to do something they don't care for as long as they sell sony, samsung and huawei. Saudis are the same and everyone...it will be a dark place and if Putin gets removed - better find someone who isn't supporting left politics.

I live in a country bordering Russia. There is a few nazis here, and we had a massacre of kids a few years ago.

Will you invade us? (asking for a friend)

In that sense, Russia is similar to much of Latin America.

In fact, it is the default position for most humans for most of written history.

The 1950s-1990s period in certain countries of early industrialization was exceptional, not the norm.

Soon, even now, there will be three gulags: Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia.

In a word, “globalization”.

And two of the three will be in perpetual war with the other.

That’s a funny story.

Good Luck!

Gather an army, start killing Russians and do not respond to requests, persuasions or negotiations..ignore everything completely . Provocations help very well .And then, after a while, you'll realize that you shouldn't have done it.

But poor, long-sufferig Donbass...
Unlike the Russian troops that are trying to spare the infrastructure and to protect the lives of civilians, the Nationalist battalions are trying to inflict as many damages as possible, while in retreat; blowing up electric stations, hitting schools/ hospitals and the rest.

Violence must always be stopped. But if NATO sometimes does something without the consent of the UN Security Council, then why do you expect Russia not to do the same? Especially when it comes to the security of the country. NATO set the rules, not Russia.
You have a problem understanding plain English? Because I didn't say the Serbs were "always" to blame. You are the only one who said that. Not clicking on your link either - no need.

And don't go poking into history and root causes with your myopic lens - you will have your azz handed to you.
