What ever is left of the conference even it gets a new name in some sort of a realignment, it will be leftovers. If Carolina leaves, Duke will probably follow them. Or it could just totally desolve.
"Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, NC State, Virginia & Virginia Tech are “The Magnificent 7” ACC schools, sources told
@ActionNetworkHQ. These schools, @RossDellenger reported, have met in past several months, w/lawyers examining grant-of-rights to determine just how unbreakable it is."
Sounds like there definitely is interest in leaving. As UNC goes, so does the conference.
^LOL - this is both arrogant and delusional, yet at the same time it is a good description of how the conference was run for a long time. The protection and promotion of the blues at the expense of the other conference members will be a major reason for the inevitable demise of the All Carolina Conference.
So after meetings yesterday, it appears that all is clear for now. It appears that the league is going to agree to some unequal revenue sharing where Clemson/FSU and other higher performers in the league will get more money than those who don't bring as much.
It's still not going to make up anywhere near the revenue gap between the ACC and Big 10/SEC. But it'll probably keep folks appeased for a few more years to get closer to the GoR's expiration.
This is huge. Two of the seven schools are North Carolina and NC State . The ACC is toast. The problem is the conference got too big. That's why the conference is having financial problems. Same issue with the Big East. Although the Big East eventually recovered but its not the conference that it was.
That's BS. The problem is John Swofford was an idiot to sign a long term tv contract. Every conference signs 6 year deals to give room for inflation. Conference TV package 101.
Swofford also made some other really idiotic moves like bringing in Raycom to take tv inventory. Raycom was a dying model.
Grant of Rights was the biggest dumb idea and now some of the schools that proposed it are trying to get out of it.
All because the ACC got their feelings hurt when Maryland went to the BIG.
UCF, Cincinnati and West Virginia are all getting $30 mill a year...ACC schools are getting $17 mill...for the next 6 years. The ACC is now on the other side of likely two other conferences (besides the SEC and B1G) in terms revenue. They are light years away from the SEC and B1G. Even the American is giving out about 8 mill a year. If the ACC doesn't get out of its TV contract, the American could theoretically catch them (based on market inflation) when its next package is due up for renewal. Based on what Houston, Cincy and UCF are getting over the next 6 years, I guess that wouldn't be a surprise.

Let's get real here. UNC athletics is one of the most widely recognized athletic brands in the country. People are sporting sportswear with the UNC logo and color across the country and internationally. The loss of that school would hurt the ACC's reputation worse than any other single school leaving.

You're calling my comment arrogant and delusional, but yet you're agreeing with it.

Take the emotion out of it...
While UNC is widely recognized, its not like losing Texas, Oklahoma or USC in terms of football prowess and therefore loss of tv revenue.
Losing Clemson is bigger to the ACC than losing UNC. Has nothing to do with reputation and everything to do with $$$. Florida State is likely 2nd. UNC a close 3rd.
