Cool: I just learned something new.

These are new in the last few years. Tungsten is about as hard as steel maybe harder, I would not shoot these in a valuable gun like my M42. Apparently the wad material is special and protects against the shot contacting the barrel, but, anyway, just no.

If you have something like an 870 where a new barrel is cheap and easy to source, easy to change out (no tools needed IIRC) you might give these a try.

Apparently these will take a turkey out to 75 yards, maybe more. With a .410.

Not a lot has changed in the shotgun world since about 1970, say, when plastic wads and hulls became about universal. Well and non-toxic shot, which either performs less well than lead, or performs about the same but costs a lot more.

But these tungsten shells are something new.

I found a box of 20 gauge Federal #3 Buckshot at my local Walmart for $10/5 shells. I looked at two gun shows with no luck.

I guess it depends on how low you are on ammo, but I would be reluctant to buy them at $2 a round. Not unheard of, but a bit high.

Are they Hornady or Fiocci?
Or some other brand.

These were for self defense and they would be better than bird shot. I have been looking for a while with no luck.

From what I have seen in gelatin tests, #3 or #4 Buck would be my top choice for self defense, for any 12, 16, or 20 gauge shotgun.

Deer loads are different than defense loads.

My father ran nothing but slugs, when hunting deer.
(The deer in his area were bigger than average, due to many grain fields, and no competing species, in the area.)

The last deer I killed was with a slug from a 12 gauge. I had to use my FIL's gun being my Remington 30-06 was stolen.
