Yes, I definitely agree with skipping the banana. Bananas are constipating. Oranges are better. Strawberries are better still (at least for me). And like I said, broccoli is awesome. I've never tried prunes. If you eat broccoli for dinner (as your whole meal), while eliminating dairy, pasta, meat, and processed foods, I think you'll find it works.
Wow...this is what you need to do to stay regular? How many people are on this diet? ...there must be other ways.
On the broccoli, I probably make two or three small pots of broccoli and onions weekly...and EAT broccoli for breakfast...I do no cereal stuff. I just had a nice bowl and I'm heading for the bathroom. I eat tangerines and apples and avocados and haven't had a banana in some months.
ironpony...try a tablespoon of phyllium husk (you can get it in powdered form at the health food store)....works like a hot dammmm.
In fact the active ingrediant in metamucil is (I believe) phyllium....along with a lot of suger, coloring and flavoring.....
We use home made salsa when we are camping as it seems we are always dehydrated. It needs to be from Jalapenos or hotter. Works like a charm if you can take the heat.
Wow, that sounds as though after you ate it you would know exactly where the salsa was in transit through your GI tract, including the burning on the way out.
If the salsa doesn't do the trick perhaps the beans will!
Not medical advice, just what I do when I get backed-up. If I go more than 3 or 4 days without a BM, I will drink 1 to 1.25 gallons of water in 60 to 90 minutes............this almost always produces a BM, that day or the next.
I take a med that makes the GI tract lazy. Same as opiods do. Sorry I know that's spelled incorrectly, don't know the right one.
I do metamucil, sometimes miralax. Prunes don't always help. If the GI tract isn't cooperating, nothing I do seems to help. Green leafy stuff helps the most I guess. And sauerkraut (except for the odor then, sorry).
Nothing I can do about the med I'm on. It also causes a drop in sodium so I can't drink a bunch of water, either.
What do you do with plain psyllium? Does it dissolve in water? I don't like all the sugar I get with the fiber I take.
So I have had bad constipation for the last three months now
What are you eating or not eating? Cheese? Chocolate? How much water are you drinking in a day? You need at least 6-8 8oz a day. How much fiber do you get in your daily meals? Natural fiber, not from a canister. Exercising? That helps move things along, too. Lastly, are you taking ibuprofen? I ask that because it's a known source for constipation. Some people don't realize it but it is. So, eat more vegetables and fruits that have fiber. Drink more water and consider medications or pain killers (if you're taking anything like that). Good luck. Constipation is no fun. Makes a person very cranky. Sorry if these questions have already been answered as I did not read the entire thread.

Wow, I would have thought you'd be doing a lot of peeing, not necessarily anything else by drinking all that water.

IDK, but I have been using this technique for quite a while and it almost always works. I assume enough water gets into the colon to help make waste move a little easier and also stimulate peristalsis.
I have chronic constipation. Will Metamucil work? How much daily? Time of day.
