Konsyl label says no active ingredients, only Psyllium,we are in our 80's.
Years ago she tried many of the over the counter products to no avail.
Konsyl stopped production for some reason without warning and though we have several bottles on hand and none in stores, she tried Equate for over a week which was ineffective and went back to Konsyl.
After a few months Konsyl notified us it was back on the market.
I looked because I know there are different types of Metamucil, some are flavored and sugar free, and some are plain with no additives.

Many are happy to have a BM once a day, but I am told that you should go to the bathroom approximately 3 times a day (after each meal) which is considered optimal. If the point is to not be constipated, I don't know how having 3 movements a day could be considered 'not as effective".
Herbals do work for you. You said Senekot worked for you. Senna tea would work for you to.
I've had such a history of constipation and since taking more mag and adding ox bile/acid bile factors I have 2-3 daily...love the cleaning out feeling.
I make it a practice to eat at least two ORANGES and three servings of either BROCOLLI, CABBAGE or CAULIFLOWER daily. For4get medicines. Natural food is the best way. Doctors that insist on medicines to cure everything are just to LAZY or GREEDY to study. IMHO
I've only had constipation once--during the time I was pregnant--and it sucks ::
If it's an ongoing issue with you, then definitely consider seeing a specialist about it.
Walking sometimes helps, I have a job where I walk a lot and mix coffee with walking=natural laxative, lol
Some foods that seem to make you "go":
Soy nuts
Prunes (I love them but have to be very careful)
Beans
Nuts/seeds (especially sunflower/chia)
Green leafy stuff
Coffee
Water
Okay, so water and coffee are not necessarily foods. Magnesium supplements also have a laxative effect :: I was taking them for restless legs on the advice of my NP but had to cut back on the dosage because they caused the diarrhea at 1000 mg.
Oh okay thanks, I normally eat one banana a day so I can quit that.
Actually, don't. Bananas, along with apples, figs, prunes, and raisins are recommended to relieve constipation. There's an old wives tale that bananas cause it, but that only applies to green unripened ones.
Okay thanks. I will try it but if it's just a light remedy, I may need something heavier since I tried three things which don't exactly get the job done. But not too heavy, since I don't want to go more than once a day.
Whats your age, height and weight?? Whats your time and diet for dinner?
Drink a tbsp of castor oil before you sleep and see how it goes. It may not have immediate effect though.
Buy the real psysillium husks powder at herbal.com.com. The other stuff is mostly sugar or chemicals, and the pure stuff works way way better and its way way cheaper.
Take a teaspoon measure with a 1/2 cup of prune juice and 1/2 cup of water or more in the morning, and the same before bed. Mix it up with a blender. Eat popcorn for lunch so that you actually have enough roughage in your system to actually have something to cr@p.
Been doing this since I had a bad experience in the hospital almost 2 years ago. You really don’t want to know any more about that.
If you have ruined your large intestine with antibiotics then you may have no flora down there, and that will cause a serious issue. Probiotics can help and a bit of beans with every meal(a table spoon).
