No, I'm sure he's fine. It sounds strange, but that's where he was when I visited him last year. I'm not sure why UMC does that. I thought I was lost when I saw the Burn Care Unit signs while looking for his room.

Is this like a new sport, robbing casinos? This guy used a taxi to get away!?!?!?!? Makes you wonder how the security details operate in the casinos. They need to get on top of this before someone gets seriously hurt.

What did he do...pay the cabbie in chips for the fare?

These latest robberies are signs of the time, IMO.

That's what I figured. He basically put in his time working the worst of the worst and now that he has seniority he has a much easier post. I know many people that would not be willing to even step foot on the yard or in a unit, let alone put 12 years in at a supermax or maximum security facility. I'd say your friend has earned every penny he will get in pension.

Agreed. And I don't often agree to people getting fluffy pensions.

security is not going to pull a gun... they don't want the liability of shooting a patron.. plus the money is insured...

the idea is just to give the thief the chips or money... they will be caught.. they always make a dumb (gee i guess i'll gamble at the Casino i robbed) mistake.

Nobody was hurt during the morning robbery at the Rio, and the robber arrived and escaped in a taxi, said Las Vegas police spokesman Marcus Martin.

We're not even sure what his defined benefit is at this point. Nor do we know what/if he contributed of his own funds. His pension might not be all that fluffy.

I've done the math. Dollar for dollar I would receive a much nicer monthly benefit from Social Security. Granted, I would have to wait much longer to receive said benefits but bear in mind that I've already contributed to SS for 19 years and will not see a dime of that back. Basically, over the course of a 20 year career with the NDOC I will have contributed approximately $156,000 to PERS and will receive a monthly benefit of about $1800 a month. Over the course of 44 years my total contributions to SS would equal about $126,000. My monthly benefit would be about $2500 a month. This assumes a steady $41,000 a year with no raises. Also bear in mind that while SS recipients (although not lately) receive adjustments for inflation, my defined benefit will remain the same regardless of what the dollar is worth at that point in time.

That said, given what is happening with local, state, and federal government who's to say that either my pension or SS will be around in 20 years?
