I don’t think the Jewish population ever reached a majority, but there were Jewish families in Randolph who migrated out of Dorchester/Boston in the mid-century (along with a whole bunch of white Catholics).

These days Randolph is rapidly headed towards becoming a black majority town, if it isn’t already. I don’t recall where I read it, but the elementary schools some years back had a 60%+ black majority student population. At this point, those students have likely transitioned to MS/HS.

I wouldn’t say Randolph is affluent, but I’m sure there a fair number of solidly middle class black families within. However, I suspect OP is looking for a more upscale community. Milton is definitely more upscale than Randolph ... $125k median income vs $87k.

It might be a better argument to see that what actual neighborhoods in census designated areas rather than entire community. In Springfield I know that there's a high Puerto Rican population in the north end but also the South End. African American communities more towards McKnight. Heck there's a Nation of Islam Center.

If you want to dive in a little bit deeper there's some other demographics that might be factored in. for example when you say black are you also including Haitian and Jamaican? I've seen plenty of Haitians in eastern Mass but I hardly see any n'western. In western Mass there a Jamaican restaurants and plenty of Jamaican since they came over during World War II during the labor shortage. There's a whole debate about black vs. African American. The argument goes that the term black means those that have ancestral rent application with segregation slavery where is African-American to be anybody that immigrated from Africa. I have heard of conversations were people up said I'm not black I'm Haitian. It's almost like Latino versus Hispanic. Latino covers all of Latin America, Hispanic only covers those that speak Spanish.

In Springfield I would tend to say most lives in or near McKnight neighborhood. But there's so many Victorian houses it's kind of hard to argue about wealth. When I grew up in the 80s most of us thought that the whole neighborhood was boned but then we are kind of shocked that after one moved out that the house is actually rented.

In neighboring Connecticut I would argue Bloomfield would be the place to go.

Not at all. I’m suggesting he’s worrying about perceived issues which have near zero impact on him.

Making inflammatory comments about a “100% diversity” while posting from 98%+ white Pittsburg County NH is rather ‘rich’. It’s also not at all helpful to OP who asked a very reasonable question as a black person moving to a very white state.
