I had the impression these elements were creating and enriching our culture. There is no element I would consider "alien" to the U.S.
It's curious to me that our moderator censored what I went on to say by way of explaining the one sentence he chose to leave in. Censoring piecemeal makes me appear to be bigoted - which I definitely am not.
Patriotic? YOU BET!
I may not agree or disagree with the law, but are you all that paranoid? Most of my family lives in Arizona and I haven't had a single one of them tell me they got asked for proof of citizenship or legality to be in the state. Outside of official business, I haven't talked to a LEO for over 30 years in their "official " capacity.
I just don't understand the paranoia over this law...must be just me

The law does not go into effect until July 29, 2010, but the undocumented are leaving here (Phoenix area) in droves.
Do you have to show proof of citizenship or just that you're here legally? Wouldn't a military ID satisfy the latter?
I think that would be the case. The situation with NM DL as I understand it is, illegals can get them. Thus having one doesn't mean a person is here legally. It just means they have a DL. I don't think people are going to be stopped unless there is good reason. Too many are getting themselves worked up over something that probably will never affect them unless they have real reason to worry...like being illegals for starters or acting in such a manner that the police become a little suspecious, like breaking the law.

Isn't the real reason behind the law that it can turn any undocumented criminal into a felon? The problem before was that the Feds wouldn't deport based on a misdemeanor but I believe Federal policy is they have to deport felons. Now they'll have to deport someone caught spitting on the sidewalk whereas before they served a few days, paid a fine and were cut loose.
Perhaps the Feds will react by no longer automatically deporting felons. Someone might want to keep track of that once the law takes effect.
I got 6 credit cards for backup I.D., is that good enough? or, did I steal my own wallet???!!!
I wouldn't give ya 2 cents for Arizona and the old farts who reside there.

How about a penny, or is that too much also? Us old farts are doing just fine here in AZ, but I have to warn you, we will be in New Mexico in less than 2 months for about 10 days.
You are correct, but I am curious, do you find that to be a good thing or a bad thing?
It really is too early to tell if it will be good or bad. We will miss the tax revenue and the schools will have a lot less money (and students) to work with but the healthcare system will not be as overwhelmed as it has been for the past 20+ years. Since the feds would not help us out we needed to do something. So far the only good thing is all the attention the law is getting nationally. Maybe it will wake up the feds or at least the other border states. The one thing that does scare me is Sheriff Joe having more power to abuse people with.

Reason: Added last sentence.
