There's no such thing as an "illegal." That term means nothing except that you're a racist POS who reduces people to their immigration status.
You need to use the term "illegal alien" or "undocumented alien." Seriously, it's just gross to call actual human beings "illegals."
There is a such thing as illegal, if you're not here legally then that means you're here illegally. This should not even be a debate, laws exist for a reason, if you follow the proper procedures to become an American citizen then you would not be considered illegal.
Illegals sure do effect wages, it's called supply and demand. Look at N Dakota the lack of people has led to cashiers there making $17.40 an hour at Walmart no less.
A lot of blame to go all the way around. If the U.S. government was serious the borders would get secured. I'm gonna guess we have the most prisons in the world? But we can't secure the border with proper technology. Secondly, go after the business that hire illegals. Fine them a dollar amount that would crush them. Thirdly, as your typical American think twice before you hire that landscaper or day laborer at home depot.

Not even the so called tea party has even suggested FINING businesses a dollar amount that would crush them. Businesses are the true base conservatives are catering too, and isn't it all about maximizing profits?
Besides, since conservatives want less government and less regulation, who is the government to interfere with the free market? If that landscaper or day laborer is the cheapest person you can get, why not hire them? For that matter who is the government to tell businesses who they can't and can't hire?
Besides, securing the border and investigating businesses requires revenues to the government (taxes). Can't have that, can we?
So for these reasons, much of the current situation with immigration is fully the consequences of where Republican politics have gotten us.
I don't think the Latino vote is completely lost. George Bush didn't do so bad among Latinos. Mexicans in Texas are not as left-wing as their counterparts in Cali, so they won't turn the state blue soon. The Republicans could do much better, of course.
New York Latinos are mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican, so I wouldn't really compare them to Mexicans and Central Americans. Those in the Northeast also fail to recognize that crime rates among Mexicans is lower than that amongst Puerto Ricans or Dominicans, especially when controlling for age.
In recent years you have a large number of Mexicans and Central Americans in NYC, and there's a significant South American population there.
And again conservatives go into massive denial on the Latino vote. The Republican party went FURTHER to the right and allowed the tea party to take over. Unless the Republican party purges those racist, anti immigrant elements, there is absolutely no chance they'll do well among Mexicans as no one likes to vote for someone who is constantly bashing them.
As for crime rates being lower among Mexicans, proof? There are some pretty bad neighborhoods in Los Angeles with lots of Mexicans, and let's not even go on about the crime situation in Mexico itself (drug cartel wars, kidnappings, etc.).

The US should employ a shock and awe style campaign to secure the borders, heavily fine employers of illegals, round them up and ship them out.
Then we should offer job training and apprenticeships to our people. To fill those jobs that are now open. There should be an alternate way, besides college education to make a decent living.

It will never happen under this pro business regime. And who do you think is interested in spending either corporate money or taxpayer money to offer job training and apprenticeships when employers want CHEAP, DISPOSABLE, LABOR?
The right will never do anything about immigration, except use it to fire up a dwindling base.
With that said, if you want job training and apprenticeships for Americans vote for politicians who are willing to TAX wealthy people in order to have more services for the general public, including JOB training!

Well, when you take out immigration related crimes, Mexicans are incarcerated at lower rates than Blacks or Puerto Ricans. If you control for age, the disparity grows even more since Mexicans are a very young population. A large portion of Mexicans are in the prime crime-committing age cohort, which is not so much the case of Blacks or Puerto Ricans.
Violent crimes are the most important issue, not drug crimes. Vandalism and drug crimes are prevalent among Mexican communities, not so much actual violence.
Rather than being the average, East LA is an outlier. Majority Mexican cities like El Paso have relatively low crime rates.
Ron Unz has a great article on the subject in the American Conservative.
Caribbean hispanics are incarcerated at higher rates than Mexicans/Central Americans and should not be looked at in the same way.
The amount of Hispanics in a neighborhood will offer little knowledge of how safe it is on the average. Same cannot be said of the amount of Black residents, unfortunately. But this is just based on averages.

You have plenty of violence in actual Mexican cities, as in drug cartel violence. And yes, there are some pretty rough poor communities in California with Mexicans in it.
Talk about a biased source, the American Conservative. My history degree area of is in Latin American studies, I have lived in Hispanic communities in NYC and in Los Angeles, I can read and write in Spanish, etc. So when I want to know more about Hispanics, I do not read right wing propaganda outlets, particularly when I am perfectly capable of reading, watching, or listening to Spanish speaking media!
