And I recognize macho tough guy talk when I see it.
This is already a war, except it’s a war against a virus. The virus is doing pretty good so far. We’ve got to do better for when the next epidemic from whatever other new diseases come out.
You really think a history degree, well, a reputable history degree, is just about reading about historical matters? That seems like almost a radically naive take, but maybe I'm missing something here.
In the case of ritedude and millions other history majors that I came across in life, I stand by my statement...
Potential city COVID-19 relief plan includes universal basic income for every New Yorker
New York City faces tough economic times amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and a solution to the financial malady might be universal basic income (UBI) for every New Yorker, according to City Council Speaker Corey Johnson.
You have a government who refused to prepare and prevent...
You have a naive general public who refuse to take precautions and comply with the half-effective/-faulty viral protection guidelines...
you have a nation divided into two political camps, each of which put their political interests ahead of public health, safety and well-being for all...
You have a hollow economic system that cannot produce and provide essential medical supplies and necessities to meet the booming demand...
On top of all these incompetences, you have a prevalent mindset insisting that it is only natural to lose those weak and vulnerable citizens to this virus as long as the strong and healthy can recover swiftly from the infection.
Biden called Trump “xenophobic” when he banned travels between the US and China...good that he learned to shut up when the US closed the borders with Mex/Can recently.
I think we are going to see more desperation out there very soon. I went out this evening around 10 to get cash and on my way back, almost near my building, a guy approaches me with "Excuse me, miss" This NEVER HAPPENS on my little side street. It's a very quiet residential street with nothing going on whatsoever except coop buildings. No retail, no nothing.
I was pretty surprised, and just did my NY thing of pretending I didn't hear him. But I was a little shaken. I guess he was probably going to ask for money, although he was just walking down the street and not standing and begging (which would be a mistake on that street since at 10 pm most people are in bed and the street is deserted, at least in quarantine times like these).
But we have a few boomers on this board talking about their God given right to defy common sense ordinances to minimize it's spread, same thing
I haven't read any posts like that nor have come across anyone in the outside world expressing that point of view. Of course, I didn't read all the posts
Point is there is no need for generation bashing because they all have their idiosyncrasies. Some millenials are pretty stupid thinking that they are invincible and partying on college campuses (before the dorms were closed) and on the beaches. It finally seems that most have gotten the message, but this was the last age group that finally processed the message. Their behavior was pretty selfish because they were told over and over that even if they didn't exhibit symptoms, they could be carriers and could get other people sick.
