This technique is not new. Many years ago A&S in downtown Brooklyn had to close the back door that was near the men's departments because groups of hoodlums were coming in, grubbing stacks of jeans, and running out. That politician blames unemployment. Does he want to work with those people in the video? What great co-workers they would be. Very trustworthy. Make sure you lock up your handbag anytime you leave your desk. They're not mentally ill either. They are thieves, plain and simple.
lol at Unemployment when there are millions of jobs unfilled... FAKE news...

Well since they're doing it in your neighborhood now, what are you gonna do, move? Or are you gonna buy a Guardian Angels jacket and beret? Let me know what you decide.
Why would I move when I'm not in denial about a Citywide problem, unlike some people... Unlike you, I travel around NYC. I don't stay confined to my tiny little neighborhood.
What will end up happening is simple: large chains that manage to numbers on a spreadsheet will close their locations in areas that are not profitable when factoring in loss risk from shoplifting. Then the complaints will flood in about why "certain" communities are underserved by CVS/Walgreens/etc.
What a prediction! Came true a few days after you posted this in SF, complete with the complaints about stores closing in certain neighborhoods.

Traveling for work does not count
When's the last time you've been to any of the outer boroughs not for work? Travel around NYC...lol
