Needless acronyms, textspeak, and overly long names for buildings/things.
1) You have earn your way into being an acroynm; my head is already filled with them and you better have a compelling reason to have me kick one of the old ones out to replace it with yours. If the name you came up with is too long or cumbersome for you to spell out or say, try again.
2) SMS language/textspeak/texting language should stay in the world of text and even be used sparingly there.
2) The people that came up and approved the name for such things as the "Thunder Bay Regioanl Health Sciences Center" (local hospital) should be flogged.
Here's another one that I frequently see on forums such as CD.
People for some reason must think it sounds affected or something to say "one would do such and such". They will write "you, general you, not you specifically would do ,"
I don't get it. Why not keep speech as simple as possible?
I do the 'general you' when the online conversation is touchy. I find there are a lot of people on CD who either don't bother to thoroughly read or their comprehension isn't great, or maybe they just have giant egos and they are quick to assume comments are all about them personally.
I think a lot of people on here would die living where I am. There are a lot of older backwoods people (literally) who don't have much of an education in the area. I frequently hear odd turns of phrase and antiquated words. I find it fascinating and a little bit of a trip back in time.
