Millions of North Carolinian's salary increases, health coverage and much more are being held hostage just because of their egos in trying to pass an override that shows no sign of occurring given the solid opposition of the Democrats. In a normal General Assembly, we'd have some compromise on legislation and the lawmakers would've been home months ago. Instead, we have these soulless types laughing and mocking their colleagues. What a pathetic development indeed.

As a lifelong resident of the Old North State, I'm sickened and disgusted by these actions. And I'm looking forward to many of these politicians getting their deserved comeuppance at the ballot box this time next year, now that their gerrymandered districts are being altered for the better of us all.

As a lifelong resident of NC were you sickened when the Democrats gerrmandered everything as well?

Districts are gerrymandered 24/7 no matter who is in power. The idea that only the Republicans are evil is incorrect.

The dems did not gerrymander to the extent the repubs are doing now. This has been thoroughly discussed and debunked. For example, throughout most of the 1990's, when the dems controlled the GA, NC's congressional delegation was split 6/6 and some years even had 8 republicans. The current general assembly has attempted to gerrymander at a level that is way above the norm.

Both false statements. No, the Democrats weren't gerrymandering 24/7 like you're claiming. And they sure weren't doing with surgical precision the way GOP strategist Thomas Hofeller did to intentionally exclude minorities and dilute their voting power in the state.

Again, the fact here is that the maps set up by the Republican-led legislature have been struck down as unconstitutional and must be redrawn before the 2020 elections by a three-judge panel, with one of those judges being a Republican, Joseph Crosswhite of Iredell County. The three-judge panel cited Hofeller's files "in concluding that he had used racial statistics to shape his maps despite public claims to the contrary."

If you've got problems or objections to Democrats, that's your right to do so, but the fact is they weren't found guilty of gerrymandering like we have now under the Republicans. Combine with the way they're trying to ram legislation through by tricking Democrats in the House out of attending and holding and mocking the Democrats in the Senate, and you should understand why I'm sickened by the Republicans only right now.

So, none of us are opposed to gerrymandering, just the degree of gerrymandering!

I'd prefer that the GA not be directly involved with redistricting.

In the absence of clear standards for HOW to go about drawing the lines
(the actual problem btw)... some degree of shenanigans is to be expected.
So... the opposition is on at least those two levels.

Quite so. It's been allowed to become obnoxious.

And, there is no clear standard and in all probability those that would be appointed to draw the standards wouldn't be the best choice. What came first, the chicken or the egg???

Even the best demographers in the country would still be held hostage by those that would pay them to draw the lines.
Career politicians will always vote to further their careers.

It's not all that tough to do well. Perfect is the enemy of good enough.
In any case it's less about who ...that what standard they should apply.

Did either of them end up in Court over it?
